I bought a Logitech Squeezebox (Internet Radio) from Komplett.
This radio cannot pick up BBC stations which was my main reason for buying.
So within the 14 days I contacted Komplett they asked me to send it back , They made no comment about my claim that it was "not fit for the purpose for which it was bought".
I sent it back and they are giving me a refund however they have deducted 10% as "it will have to be sold as a demo item".
The bottom line is I had to pay shipping to me, I had to pay shipping to return the item and also lost 10%.
To me this doesnt seem fair ...

key question here is did Komplett make the claim it could recieve BBC radio or did you presume it did?

Sounds to me like Komplett charged you a restocking charge rather than deal with it as a faulty item which may based on your post above be correct.

i thought cooling off periods were for products bought on HP where you could either waive your 14 days and get the product there and then or wait the 14 days until you convienced youself you needed the item.

After that you may have return periods of up to 60 days not affecting your statitory right etc?

    just a question?

    assuming it was this one

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=375492

    or this one

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=335713

then they don't claim it can pick up BBC.

Their page says 10 days cooling off period ?
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/k.asp?action=custserv&topic=cooling

We will reduce the refund if:

Items are damaged by user or in transit back to us.
Items or retail package has been damaged (cannot be sold as new)
Parts are missing (manuals, drivers, cables, adapters, etc) in the return shipment

If you complied with these requests then i would send an email asking why.
did you rip the box open when you got it ?

They also list one of the conditions as : "You have not opened/used the item"

    Thanks for the replies.
It looks like I'm out of luck as far as the "cooling off" period is concerned.

    Re not picking up BBC
While they did not claim it picked up BBC they did not warn about it either.
BBC must be one of the best know radio stations in the world so if one bought an Internet Radio one would be entitled to assume it would pick all the major Internet radio broadcasts. I'm going to raise it with Komplett anyway and see how it goes.

They couldn't be expected to list all the stations it doesn't work with, any more than listing the ones it does work with.

The Squeezebox can indeed access BBC radio stations. Check out AlienBBC (http://www.x2systems.com/AlienBBC/index.html), and order a new Squeezebox!!!

Many internet radio stations are only available in their home country or prevent listeners in certain countries streaming them. Presumably this is based on the IP address.

I have a Sonos system and it can't stream the BBC in Ireland.

Would you not consider having this thread moved here and have Komplett deal with your query directly?

To be fair OP, your research was poor and you bought something you didn't want through no fault of the vendor. That they took the item back at all shows them in good light - they were under no requirement to do so.
