    Hello everyone,

Just wondering if you guys could help me out regarding quality restaurants in galway. It's my gf's birthday in a few weeks and I'm hoping to book somewhere like KC Blakes or Cactus Jacks for the occassion;). I've eaten in Vina Mara (nice spot) and Nimmos (not impressed) in the past but was hoping to try out someplace different.

So it'd be great to hear some suggestions for other places (not originally from galway, you see) that I'm unaware of.

    Cheers!

Like every other thread on this topic….. if your not running on a tight budget then Abalone on Dominick St is to die for.

Oscars also gets a lot of good mentions.

Try searching this forum and you'll see all the previous posts and reviews

    Yes!

I was in Abalone on Saturday night. The food was really really good. I didn't spot a veggie option on the menu although I'm sure they can accommodate that. It wasn't cheap at 100 for two for 3 courses not including wine but it was definitely worth it.

If you're not set on sticking to the city, then the Pullman restaurant in Glenlo Abbey is something special. Eating in a train car of the Orient Express is a really lovely experience. Been there 3 times now and still love it.

Thanks guys, very helpful indeed! I'm thinking either Abalone or The Pullman (sounds so cool)

..or if you fancy a drive. I had dinner in "Cullens at the Cottage" in grounds of Ashford Castle a few weeks ago. Nicest meal I've had in a very long time.

Seriously think its time to do an official; best pub/restaurant/nightclub for Galway and make it a Sticky and reviewing it ever 4 months. Topic comes up again and again and all it does is make me hungry.

McSwiggans is the correct answer by the way ;)

It's all about opinions of course, but McSwiggans is best restaurant in the area?.............

Personally, I'd say the Pullmann restauarant at Glenlo is many miles ahead, for not much more money.

I wasn't thinking outside of town.

    O'Grady's on the Pier

    +1

...and you can go for a drink afterwards in Donnellys or the Twelve and be virtually guaranteed a seat in a place with atmosphere, bit not too crowded.

Food and Service in O'Gradys has been consistently good for years. Same people go there regularly paying much less than their sister restaurant in town Kirwan's Lane.

KC Blakes - avoid. Rude service and overrated food.
