Does anyone want to post where, in their locality, the counting of the votes will be taking place? and if you've really nothing else to do at that time, to post the 'odd' message here keeping us posted of progress & reactions before the official announcements are made.

where is the count taking place in Killarney??
I assume the euro votes goes to cork for the count, or do they do it all locally and send them the results??

After driving through Listowel, I found it amusing to see a vast array of town council candidates dotted around various locations in the town centre like hanging baskets. They tried looking like they weren't on display, but failed miserably, as I hope some of them do when the results are in.

Should we thank all of those people working in the polling stations, the same old bunch with friends in high places having themselves a nice little earner each time that there's an election on?

    No, I don't think so.:P

I did my bit for the EU and Kerry today, and tried best to ignore the smiling "Taking the lead" Walsh (he must like walking dogs) hanging around just outside the requisite distance from the polling station. The smile was wasted on me as I live outside the town limits, and don't get to vote for those "characters:rolleyes:" who spend a considerable time fighting amongst themselves on Listowel Town Council.

Well with just over a third of the boxes open now here in Killarney, the first preferences are looking like:

    1) Brendan Cronin

    For ejmaztec......
Tom 'taking the lead' Walsh, happens to be a very deserving candidate and I am delighted to see him elected!! I have never been into politics much, don't really like politicians much either!! As for the fighting amongst themselves, not all need to back stab to gain votes. Tom, who I don't know personally, seems to be the only one in my eyes, who has kept to himself and got on with it, has never had to put another down to get a vote!! In my opinion, he's the best of a bad bunch!! He has been the only one I know who has followed up on his promises, and he will certainly give anybody, anywhere, his time, at anytime, not just coming up to elections!! And don't consider yourself too lucky to be given a smile by a man who always has a smile on his face and a friendly word!! Give him a break!! I'm also delighted to see a few fresh faces be elected, it might brighten up the panel!!

Shocking to see Sheila lose out, truly is.

Out of the remaining 3Fianna Fàilers I wouldn't mind seeing Brian OLeary lose his seat if I'm honest. I have always had great time for Tom & wouldn't mind seeing John getting elected as new face & new blood(so to speak).

would prefer tom also, however I think john would be the weakest councillor if elected

I said that Tom Walsh was outside the polling station with a smile on his face, so I can't imagine the reason for such a syrupy and defensive reply.

As for the "fighting amongst themselves", I was referring to a post-election scenario.

I do truly wonder why the people of Listowel vote for some of their councillors, but I don't have Tom Walsh on that list.:D

I wasn't trying to be defensive ejmaztec, I was just giving my opinion.....
Tom isn't the worst of them, and I don't think a smile is wasted on anyone!! ;) Be it post or pre election, the listowel town council are always bickering amongst themselves!! I was just thinking that Tom seems to be the only one who doesn't get involved......
And as for the people voting for some of their councillors, I would have to agree!! I am delighted to see a few newbies, but disappointed with a couple of the oldies who kept their seats!! I guess there are some people in the country who are still anti-change!! My apologies for coming off as being defensive.........:)
