Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    mmm clever photo, would prob go for a darker contrast but not by much, would like to see one of the B+W PP conversion specialists like DarrenG have a go at this, border seems a bit too simplistic too.
    It's a decent photo just lacking something even more that I can't quite put my finger on.

    @AnimalRights:
    DarrenG or anyone else for that matter are more than welcome to have a go at this, I'm always open to new ideas. How would you suggest I do the border? Point me to a good tut?

    @Bedlam:
    I know the paving slabs on the left seem to throw the brain a bit :)

    Thanks CityExile

    Not got a clue about framing/borders I'm not at that stage yet!

    Hi there,

    Did you take this in black and white or did you do a conversion? Cos if you did a conversion I would have a go off the colour file although I suspect there isn't much contrast to play with judging by what the weather was like.

    I like it a lot. I would consider doing this with the frame: but bear in mind it's what I do with a lot of my black and white frames lately:

    very narrow white frame and wider black frame. I did this in Photoshop by increasing the canvas size twice.

    Yes you guessed right I took this in colour and converted to b&w. Its cropped and resized. Here is the original uncropped jpeg if you want to have a go...
    Photo for C&C

    Do you have any examples of the frames on your Flickr? (Link please)

    Cheers,

    Hi Rob,

    3221294672_3e9d4a2595.jpg

    I had a quick go at this the other evening; only got around to posting it today.

    As you can see, I cut it slightly differently, but to get to this stage I

    1) messed around with the curves a little bit. there wasn't much contrast so this is all I got.
    2) converted to black and white
    3) modified the brightness a little.

    I did think about leaving the traffic light reflection read but it didn't really work in my eyes.

    The frames were added by extending teh canvas size. I think I added about 3 tenths of a cm width and height for the white and about 4 cm for the black, height and width.

    If you've any questions, just ask. I hope you like it.

    regards

    I like what you did with it. Never thought of leaving the person in it. I also like the conversion, was this done in PS?

    Thanks Teresa, plenty to think about for future photos.

    Does anyone feel that adding a little grain may do any thing more for the shot or is that just done too often with B&W's these days? By grain, I mean just a subtle amount, nothing too mad.

    Love the original, especially what Calina has done with it.
