Do you think monitoring the number of leases in use on a router is an accurate way to make sure that no one is using your broadband illegally?

    You should install a packetsniffer

Or type netstat into a command window to show the number of active connections

You think somebody is stealing your wireless?

What do you mean by leases?

Edit: Re-read your question. sorry had a few pints watching liverpool :)

    You mean illegal downloads etc?

yip, I mean someone stealing my broadband. You can monitor the number of IP addresses given out by the router. There was a log on to my DSL at 06:00 today, and I was just curious (according to the BT DSL usage stats webpage).

Just set your router so it'll only assign X amount of IP's then limit it by MAC addresses, that way nobody else can get assigned an IP unless they really know what their doing :)

Which, if they're stealing bb, is surely a safe bet? Best thing to do is change the WPA key.

    Edit:
OP, it is not a good indication. It will only tell you if someone has requested made a DHCP request, which is of course optional.
