N96 is it the slowest thing to ever?

    I have a N96 and its starting to drive me nuts! The functions on it are great but the phone regularly just freezes, so switch it of and on again works for a while then the same. Sometimes the screen backlight dosen't come on when you slide it. I am carefull to only have one app running at a time but no improvement.
    I've checked the Nokia web side for a software upgrade but it says there isn't any available, are these upgrades network specific as it asks for your network?
    Has anyone upgraded their software and if so any improvement?
    Any other tips or solutions appreciated.
