Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Expressions

An Exhibition of Photography

Dates: Jan 27th 2009 Opening at Airfield House, Upper Kilmacud Rd by the internationally renowned photographer Paul Seawright (6.30pm)
Jan 28th – Feb 1st 2009 Exhibition continues at Airfield (10am – 5pm)

Following on last year’s highly successful debut, Expressions is the second exhibition organised by Sallynoggin College’s photography students. It is a testament to a course that has introduced many to the international world of photography over the last twenty years. It showcases the work of photographers who have passed through the college and gone on to achieve success in their chosen field of photography.

With several styles of photography on display, the work of the six artists bears witness to the world within which we live.

– “People in place”, the work of Eoin O Conaill who won a Gallery of Photography bursary award in 2008, explores the idea of modern Ireland through landscape and portrait images.
– On a similar theme, “What has been” by Ian Bamford looks at the scars that have been inflicted upon the landscape for the sake of development.
– The black and white photographs of John Edmondson, “Where the green blood flows”, reflect on half forgotten environments which appear at first sight to have no great relevance or value.
– Diarmait Grogan’s series “Personal Myths” which has been selected will also be exhibited in the prestigious Derby Format 09 International Photography Exhibition.
– Joe Sterling’s pieces from “Working Distance” examine the recent phenomenon of workers coming to Ireland from Poland in order to find employment resulting in a population drain within their native country.
– Moving away from the landscape, Johnny Savage’s series of portraits “Bingo Ladies” profile various bingo nights taken in the National Stadium in 2007. They were originally commissioned by Mongrel Magazine.

A slide presentation of current students work will also be on show at the Open Day.
