Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. Don't know, tbh. Mate used to have a '70s ex-Garda one, fitted with a Ford 2 litre engine. Nearly bought it from him in 1983.

Seller says it's only €250 to clear. Is this true? If so that's a good price. Pity the pics aren't larger but I can make out that the reg is LLA 497V

    €200 to clear, €52 p.a. tax.

So the seller is not right, but in the right ball park.

Vauxhalls were officially sold in Ireland until 1982.

Whilst I would be interested in a 4 door Escort, the auto does have the advantage of having a wider transmission tunnel so easier to convert to the larger engined versions.

Those Rekords were a very durable cars and a lot of them survived well into the 90's and beyond. Their weak point was the top of the inner wings, same on Senators & Monzas and moreso on their UK counterparts. They were basic cars though, with a horribly long gearchange and odd ratios.

If it's an auto, it's got a bogger gearbox tunnel so Type 9 gearboxes will fit easy and probably T5 'boxes as well.

Given the price of 2-door Escorts, a sound 4-door with a big transmission tunnel is ripe for a YB conversion. It's the latest fad in the world of modified classic Fords, the "more door"......

Even though they were rare enough here, they were everywhere in the UK.
    and depreciated like normal.
A friend of mine recently bought a cabriolet for €900 here, immaculate condition,1.4 with manual steering.

1.7 litre engine - I'd say this thing sounds great but isn't exactly speedy.

Really looks fab though. You'd be tempted to pull the VW logo off and pass it off as some boutique Italian foray. :D

Looks good, but for that money there's far nicer cars out there with a lot more power. From wiki:
A car named SP1 was also built, but due to its very poor performance (only 65 hp (48 kW) with a 1600 cc engine), it was soon discontinued. The same problem plagued the SP2. In fact, a malicious joke at that time was to relate the "SP2" name with "Sem Potência" ("Without Power", in Portuguese).

Nice car by the looks of it, Alpine alloys and the Highline spec to boot, but the fact that the NCT is out at the end of the month and there seems to be no NCT report doesn't bode well for it IMO.

Still a true 80's classic, although being built since 76-77 there are a few around that are entitled to a ZV number and subsequent cheap tax.

The reg is 89-W-1994, that would annoy me just a tiny bit that its not 89-W-1989 :o.

the guy who is selling that 635 is a bit of a classics nut by the looks of it. look at the other stuff in the drive !

That 635 was for sale last year, or so, same picture.

Anyway it had 2264 hits in 20 hours and was sold. I have to say I certainly would have looked at it at that price !

If anybody here is thinking of buying it I have an ECU that will run that car that can be borrowed to see if that cures the non start issue

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

I knew I recognised the picture, just couldn't place it!

It looks in good condition. 5 years ago these were going for several times that. Sign of the times - the classic car market is very poor these days...

    Indeed I do:D
As the man said, sold now and the phone hasn't stopped ringing since the ad went up. She's off to Derry on a trailer with her new owner who will pay just £220 (sterling) to tax her.
I had loads of enquiries from the UK and now I see why!

It is a lovely car and I had some great years with it, but the 928 is a real hoot to drive and I'm very priveleged to also have the stag for the fine weather, so that and the extortionate road tax led me to move her on.

I probably priced it a bit low judging by the phone calls, but after five years the car owes me nothing and it's gone to a very good home so well wear Kevin.

    Mark.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,863 ✭✭✭RobAMerc

I need my eyes tested, ony having glanced at it I thought the Stag was actually a W107 SL ! and was going to comment on the vendor liking German metal ! :o

Seen as I've quibbled over a mere €2 before, I'll quibble over £5, it's only £215 (for a large engined car in TC11)

That's what I thought at first glance - but then I saw the metal rollbar. Thought I was oh-so clever figuring out it was a Stag of another Boardsie... but then I see the rest of the comments outing all the details!
