    Sporty........basically anything that isn't a Micra :D

I've always had saloons or small cars so just a coupe would do. I'd like a BMW 320 but doubt it will happen unless it needs major work and it will have to be pre 1996 due to insurance

the 2.0 coupes are nippy, but the inside is all a bit plastic in them, though i'd say that purple would polish up to look amazing, specially on those curves.

but with petrol prices the way they are, business must be good for you :D

The purple one is too new as its a 1998 otherwise I'd be on the way to see it now.

As for business being good, its not bad, I've had pay cut after pay cut but still have a job so I may as well treat myself. The car will just be for weekends and during the summer so petrol prices aren't an issue

why pre 96 if you dont mind me asking?

fair play treating yourself. theres nothing like it, treated my car to 200 quids worth of service parts today and it felt good

I'd imagine it's to avail of classic insurance.

Are you sure about that? Who's your insurer?
    andyseadog wrote: »

No it depends. Normally anything over 20 years can be insured as classic. And any rare or exotic cars over 15 years (sometimes even younger) can usually be insured as classic - i.e. any Ferrari, any Porsche, etc.

Call the Portlaoise office. They will insure anything over 15 years (14 if you ask nicely) at a reduced rate of €300 odd euros.

Tbh €300 (third party only?) for any run of the mill 15 year old car as a second insured car is not classic insurance. That's not a reduced rate. I'd pay less than that even as a first policy.

Classic insurance is having your run of the mill classic car added on for €100. Your 6.6l muscle car for limited mileage at the weekend added on for €200 or in my case, my 5l 310BHP Porsche as my daily driver fully comprehensive for €325. Just my tuppence :)

Your indeed correct but when your a 26 year old male with a claim from 2 yers ago on your record you will obviously kill anyone who sits in your car or who is on the road at the same time as you. Its the cheapest option for me by far. My insurance for my daily is still multiples of your quote

Ah! That puts it in a different light! Seems like a good deal so. Out of interest, did they specifically quote you for a "classic car" on those 15 year old cars you mentioned, or was it just as a second car and would the age limit of the car not apply? Just wondering...

Its a classic policy which is restricted to 5000miles a year. There are different rates for different age cars. Other than that I don't know much more about it

I have a bit of a fetish for these and if I didn't already have a very shiny one out the front I would be on my way to Wicklow now.
I was wondering though, how would one explain the 3 litre diesel engine come NCT time? 'Aye, I thought it was running a bit rough alright, Diesel you say? Well, I should cocoa, would you credit that.......eh is a €50 acceptable, sir?'
