I have a bit of a fetish for these and if I didn't already have a very shiny one out the front I would be on my way to Wicklow now.
I was wondering though, how would one explain the 3 litre diesel engine come NCT time? 'Aye, I thought it was running a bit rough alright, Diesel you say? Well, I should cocoa, would you credit that.......eh is a €50 acceptable, sir?'
That looked promising until I saw the interior, otherwise a great car.

Your indeed correct but when your a 26 year old male with a claim from 2 yers ago on your record you will obviously kill anyone who sits in your car or who is on the road at the same time as you. Its the cheapest option for me by far. My insurance for my daily is still multiples of your quote

Even though your date of birth is in your username, I still though you were older :o

    Hi Keith,

The Diesel engine is most likely converted, so I would concentrate on that aspect when viewing the car.
There are so many parts that should be replaced (if you want to get it right), that you really need a whole donor car for the swap. You need the engine, gearbox, differential, exhaust, front suspension, complete speedometer unit, ignition barrel, glow plug wiring loom and controls, vacuum lines for the injection pump shut off, radiator, sound proofing above the gearbox, soundproofing for the engine bonnet, fuel tank sump filter (not sure about this one, but it may be different than the petrol one), etc., etc....

^ Not an economic proposition then, if you're paying for labour? There must be enough decent original diesels out there to buy surely.

    Not your ornery onager

Not at all. It is always better to get the right car in the first place.

Well, I do not know about a single decent Diesel Estate for sale in the country . But if you do, please post a link ;).

i see, looks like its worth a punt at 200 quid for someone. i got a crank sensor for one of these not so long ago for 20 from a breakers and fitted it in 5 minutes with just a 10mm spanner.

The one I was selling had that problem too. The buyer noticed it and I was almost certain they'd walk away.

    Too good to be true?

    '00 S-Type Jag for €1,500.

Add does look a bit dodgy.

Sounds like Arthur Daley owns it.

I'd say its legitimate and owned by a foreigner

Not really. It's big engined (easily about 1200 a year to tax) and one of the less desirable Jags made.

If anything, I'd say that's pretty much the going rate.

+1, and no NCT, even if you knew a bit about cars NCT day would be nerve wracking.

S type jags just fall out of bed. Still some of them must be worth a punt?

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

I like S-Type Jags with the 3l and the autobox :)

But no, they haven't a hope of being on the same level as a 5er or E and their reliability is way worse than some respected (UK lovers) sites will have you believe.
