They're a lovely car! Really comfy, very nicely finished and a sweet sound off the engine... A few horrid colours in the rang though!

    '00 S-Type Jag for €1,500.

Add does look a bit dodgy.

His ads are very funny, thats been up for a while. He's a bit of a driveway dealer with a few other cars on there as well.

Hmmm ...no leather, bling wheels, tint all round and to top it all off a fake shark fin on the roof ...some car allright :D

Feckin hell the 'bling wheels' (thats your idea of bling??!) would put you off a car like that? Its a 2001 diesel rover 75 with below average mileage of 100k for 2 grand, no doubt he'd probably take 1800 euro?!! Try to remember thats silly money. Its a bmw engine as im sure you know.

Sometimes some of you lot sound like a bunch of old geezers.:pac: I think its a fine looking car & a grand example of bangernomics in my opinion.

Can't always be knackered mercs, bmw's & audi's with massive engines that require 100's of euros worth of maintenance that do 20mpg. They're hardly realistic as a means of daily transport. Not for the vast majority of people anyway.

That reminds me, the very same 3.0 litre V6 can be found in a sh1tty US Taurus of the same period.

The S-type became quite a nice car later on in its life, but earlier ones were turds.

    Hi guys,

Any body spotted a nice automatic diesel with the smallest engine as possible in those prices ?

Really need one with low budget. I saw some 1.2 petrol which are very economical but can't find a diesel auto for cheap.

Bangernomics and small diesel auto don't go together. Absolute minimum will be a 1.9, and your best bet is a 2L Rover 75 CDTI auto.

I was looking at that earlier. For that price it doesn't even come with an NCT

    Still it could be fun

    Here is a better one

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1937957

Has anyone ever used one of these as a base for a project?

Strip it out, stiffen it up and add a bit more ooomph to it?

Work out ok or a waste of time? I always think they would be great crack

The S and SX were only 900cc whereas the sporting was 1100cc. Still not a quick car but the bigger engine made a suprising difference. great craic to drive. Think its the closest thing I've driven to the original mini.

Read a story once of a guy in the uk who fitted an uprated 1.4 turbo from a Punto GT with circa 160bhp

Ditto. I'm 6'2 and my legs barely fitted in but the pedals were a show stopper for me (and my feet are a relatively small size 43!). Much better in the Seicento, I had no problem at all in it. Lovely little motors those :D

Well over a years test, small enough miles and looks very straight for an asking price of a grand, 1.8s are handy enough to tax too. Defo bangernomics in my book. If I was looking for a cheap car today I'd be ringing them :)

...... and the guts of 3 months tax too.

Yeah, if you're looking for a C Class Merc then it is probably not the car to go for but if you are looking for a car for a grand then it is probably tidy enough!

not really bangernomics, the asking price is a bit steep, tax will be 1600 quid i think, and lets not mention fuel either.

but this seems like the right place to post it. a big, good looking, reliable comfortable car for 2500 quid. you wouldn't built one for that price.
