Roadtax is 1566 EUR/year and that's not really that bad, if you do high milage or really appreciate the car.

I couldn't bring myself to buy the car if I were doing high mileage. It's got 188,000 miles already - its a 4.3 V8, not the most frugal. Tyres alone would be €200 a corner. Thats not including the tax. There is no guarentee that the thing doesn't need any work either.
I'm sure there would be better ways to spend 12 or 13k for a car for high milage drivers.

The idea isn't so much high milage, but driving a luxo-barge.

My point wasn't high milage, but more that the more milage you do, the cheaper the road tax gets. It's wrong to pin the purchase decision down to the road tax, when you buy a car like that.

    Maybe something like this :D:p

I think this one is sold but there are others out there!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,340 ✭✭✭mullingar

Bangernomics is all about cost per mile including depriciation.

Even better when its a luxo-barge

If you loose an average of €2k in depreciation + road tax = 3.5k/yr

    20mpg x 10k miles x1.20litre= € 2,700 in petrol

    Thats just €6,200 + maintenance = €7k/yr

    New diesel bigish car

    €3k in depreciation + road tax = €3.5k/yr

    40mpg x 10kmiles x 1.10litre = €1250/yr

    Total: around € 5.5 k/yr

Its 1500/yr more expensive to run, but without the price tag of a new car

    GO FOR IT:D

That yoke is listed at $85k and that would be before its VRT'd. Don't think it falls under Bangernomics rules as such Shane!

If that's in reasonable shape, it's a bargain. Yours for the cost of 1 years road tax on a newer model. Far from over budget.

Once the V5 is with the car that's all that is required. Never heard of a cert of import.

Well i just got another one today, 1993 JDM Toyota Carina 2.0D Automatic, Tax'd untill the end of the month and NCT'd untill July of this year, T/B was done at 160Klms and there's 200000 on it now, good tyres, good brakes, clean inside. There is some door damage and the rear 1/4 panel has some dents.

But im happy with the 250 sheets i paid.

Will post pics tomorrow, as i'll be fixing the door tomorrow.

You really should have re-regged as Carinaboy :D

Speaking of Carinaboy, here's something that caught my eye today: http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1162249

I can't say I've come across a 940 with 38k miles and only one owner in a good while.

Nice car, i was temped by one recently. A 940 Turbo for free, but she was down a cylinder. And the owner had done all he could to get it repaired HT leads, injectors, coils, dizzy arms.

Figured it would be only usefull as parts.
