VRT isn't THAT bad and I'm sure the car could be got for about 500-600 euro less as well.

It's the minimum VRT though. VRT is calculated from the value of the car or a minimum of 2000 EUR, so at 36% it will never be less than 720 EUR VRT.

http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2027266 Must be bangernomics. Taxed until the end of the year, long NCT, sell it next January for very similar money if it doesn't sh1t a bucket of nuts in the meantime.

I think this would be a good buy, just nct'd with 62000 on the clock, if you got the price down a bit, it would be happy days all round.

Any known issues with them, other than being slow as ...? Could be car shopping this weekend, need an estate or large hatchback/liftback?

Shouldn't have a problem at that mileage. Quite reliable cars. MAF sensors can go around 100k or some suspension bushes may be worn due to bad roads. If idle doesn't fluctuate and no noise from front while passing over speed pumps, you are safe.

Definitely recommend hatchback over saloon. boot access in saloon is problematic. 1.6 engine is ok but not powerful under 3k rpm. 1.8 lt engine has better low end torque and suits town driving more if you don't drive alone.

Cheers boss. Definitely a contender, but still hoping something 1.8 or 2.0 will show up before the weekend...

You're welcome. Definitely go for bigger engine for this car. all three engine are not so different for fuel consumption.

maybe I should sell my 2.0 auto high tax thirsty (30-32 mpg average:D) banger to you and buy one of 0.5 lt diesel low tax tin cans for myself

I know that's exactly my point!

The VRT on that is going to be at least the cost of the purchase. Not much of a bargin when you add it in.

I was referring to that post which made it sound like the VRT was going to be something similar to the price of the car, which is 1800. I was saying the VRT is not that expensive on it, which it isn't.

And the other thing I said was that the car could probably be gotten for 500/600 euro less than the asking price which.
So, let's say somewhere just under 2000 with VRT added - it's still a lot of car for the money.

First glance at white P11-144 Primera screams Gardai at me, but the CE reg is reassuring.

water pomp broke no ensiti no taxes.som parts are new aswell.

Or in other words, it overheated, probably warped the cylinder head - No NCT instead of 'no ensiti'

'97 E200 merc, nice bit of tax and test too.

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1558603
Tax is out over 6 months (10/10).
If you look closely enough there seems to be either a piece of glass under the pic of the odometer, or else the dash has been tampered with. I would seriously doubt that the car has no rust whatsoever.
The car looks clean enough apart from that and indeed could be a good find for someone if they reduced the price by 500 lids.
No warning lights on the dash either which is always good. AFIK they all came with cruise, so this needs to be tested on the test drive along with a good kick down sample from the autobox.
Great cars if they come right.

what will be come of these cars, No one wants them, or anything like them, big 3 or 4 litre mercs, volvos, bmw's so on,,
I my self have a volvo 960 3.0 petrol, havent ran it for months,
is it not possible to fit a modern TDI VW engine into my car, or any of the above cars?????
i could buy a car for 3000, but it wont have lexus feel, or volvo 960 feel,
Could i do a good converison for 3000?
I would like to, please dont mention LPG, thats just as bad when car only does 20 mpg, i want diesel as i will run it for free on wvo, :P
so a lexus 2.5 tdi vw engine on wvo, possible?

My 2.0 litre petrol manual does 36 on Motorway long runs and 25 - 27 on short urban trips. I wouldn't consider 30-32 for a 2.0 litre auto thirsty.

What's the point sticking in a 2.5l diesel engine in your 3.0l petrol car? You save a few hundred a year in tax and if you do big miles maybe a thousand a year in fuel. Your car would be unsellable and possibly uninsurable. The cost of the conversion would be prohibitive, even if you do it yourself rating your own labour at zero euro per hour :)

moisture inside the merc - can see it in the disc holder. could be just blocked drain channels.

I viewed this car back in February. It's soaking wet inside and is full of dog hair all over the seats and the dashboard. There was mould on the upholstery.
Bodywork wasn't clean, even though it does look nice on the photos. Windows kept going up and down by themselves when I was checking it out.

    i might stick in a 2.5 but have it down as a 1.8 :P
1.8 lexus with wvo kit :P
unsellable, if there was a lexus ls400 1998 with a nice tdi engine plus a kit to run on wvo fitted ,plus rated at 1.8 it would sell easy
