I tried that but couldn't get an appointment in Galway in May, obviously alot of people with the same idea.

This MR2 ad seems to be pushing for a very quick sale, I think it was at €2k then €1600, and now possibly €1400. What would you be looking out for with it?

I'd be looking to see if Dennis is wearing a dress. :D

Are you sure about that ? My understanding was, it's the date the certificate gets issued, that counts.

I've just brought 2 cars through the NCT ahead of June 1st and a mate of mine is also booked in for May 27th. We had to be very inventive to get dates. So I've been to Athlone, Castlerea and the next one will be Portlaoise.

You can also recheck regularly for cancellations.

On that account. I'm selling something which can be considered semi-bangernomics :)

I have no idea. But google turned up a few ads with the same thing in it. There's even a different ad with the same car that's only a few days old.

and theyre all in Cavan, the plot thickens....

Maybe thats your man's name, it says contact audi in the details, so maybe your mans name is audi hagibek, lol

That's what i was thinking. But i would have expected a few facebook hits when putting the name into google.
But i think it's clear this guy sells a few cars on the side. Not necessarily a bad thing.

I was going to suggest "hatchback" until I realised there are no Audi hatchbacks at bangernomic level (not that I've seen yet anyways, I suppose in 10 yrs time we'll see the odd A7 in here, nice!)

Ruined by being a manual but 2 years test and it looks in good shape. Target figure of around 500 quid ;)

The manual isn't a huge negative when there's the two year test, I think €500 is a bit ambitious though, I reckon they'll see over €600 for it, low miles too.

Lads, Esel was right that the retest can be after June 1st and the NCT will still be valid for 2 years:

Q If my 12 year old car is tested in May and has to return for a retest after 1 June, how
long will my certificate be valid for?

A The NCT certificate will be valid to the anniversary of registration in 2013 if the retest is booked within 21 days of the full test and tested within 28 days of the full test.

Whats wrong with it being a manual?

Auto Mercs are preferred to manual ones in many models, that E class being one. I had one of them in diesel with a manual, not bad.

Cars like merc's, BMWs, Jags etc are better to drive, and thus easier to hold resale value, with autoboxes

True. The automatic box makes the car more comfortable, but the manual has its major advantage, which is a lot better fuel economy (at least 20% better than the same W124 automatic).

That and the foot operated parking brake.

Yeah, having to throw it in neutral before getting the parking brake on is a little annoying for a while, become 2nd nature though quite quickly. When intending on getting out it's not an issue either obviously.

The manual box wouldn't turn me off that Merc above.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,555 ✭✭✭✭Marlow

I'd generally always go for manual. Both in regards to fuel economy and also in regards to wear and tear on for example brakes. Besides that, I like to shift.

So auto-boxes don't suit everybody. There's a buyer for either.
