I don't know if this link has been put up already but a few things bother me about the ad.
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1991634

1: would you not clean out the car before taking pictures??
2: would the 2.8 V6 (base model?) have cost 150k new?
3: would the 2.8 V6 have achieved anywhere near those performance figures? (I doubt it)

    It's probably worth a grand but I still wouldn't!

Nope, S8 territory those figures are from.

Obviously been parked up a while with tax and insurance out a while.
Is it blatant lies or pig ignorance quoting those figures?
Either way, it would put me right off. I know it's cheap but it ain't rare at that kind of money

Thought they were a bit ambitious alright.

Not at all, not at all. The only thing with 190BHP that could do 0-60 in 5.5s is probably a tiny wee featherweight lotus :D

Still a lot of car for a grand though...

The E39 M5 needs all 400 horsies for doing 4.9 seconds from 0-100. No way you'll do 5.5 with 190 and that weight. A Lotus should be around that territory alright, but they weight less than a ton.

after a bit of looking around on google, roverjames is spot on,

0-60 of s8 is 5.4secs, top speed is 155mph, and the car needs 355bhp to get that speed not 190:)

maybe someone told him those stats when he bought the car:D

i was trying to check it on cartell but i cant read the reg plate

You can fool those Audi Boyo's every time. It's the same with all the guys driving RS4 or Sline diesel editions (NOT!!).

Here's a great motor but there's a wee problem with the mileage.
ad claims 180,000km but photo shows an MPH speedo with 186,000 miles which is 300,000km !
Car looks very familiar, has it been up for sale before?

Is it my imagination or does the tax disc state that the car is black when it quite clearly isn't?!

    Harsh :D

The mileage on the Carina wouldn't bother me - the tax and NCT is nice. But only a Toyota fanboi would pay €1,250 for it though...

Not a fukin chance, sold it to her for €700 in Febuary. Needed a wheel bearing, starting to puff a bit of blue smoke every now and again, gearbox felt 'cruncy' between gears. Its nice to see her again and hopefully she'll rattle on for another few years to come.

Got a mate to phone up about it and she's not disclosing the fact that it was a taxi for 4 years. He phoned her back after doing a ''cartell motor check'' and she knew nothing about it it being a taxi, when he told her as much.

When I initially posted the ad in the dreamer thread I was going to say the same but wasn't certain either :o

Edit: I don't know why that angry face is there

    NCT 12/11, TAXED 12/11 high miles (doesn't say what - ex-taxi?)

    Maxima auto asking €750

What are these like anyway? HJ says bland, mushy handling, reliable...

V6, 24v, timing chain (or chains?)

    Not your ornery onager

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,721 ✭✭✭E39MSport

no, no, no .. Tiny engine, no history. You want a well sorted 4.0 V8 for yourself :D

Award winning smoothy smooth engine that is not bad on juice (in 2.0 form), handling is what one would expect from a jap luxo barge and they are indeed quite reliable. Some parts are shockingly expensive though.

how the **** do you know these things?! all of ye?!

I've driven two of them, the award winning engine thing is common knowledge and when I was selling a Rover 618 years ago a lad with a 2.0 Maxima was interested but the mpg of the Rover put him off. Also when I lived in Dublin got a few spins in taxi Maxima's and the average mpg they claimed were 30+.

An interest in cars, a good memory and advancing (ish) years though would cover it :pac:. Back in 1999 I was 18/19.
