Limerickman after my auld mazda 626 passed the NCT 2 weeks ago with 196K on her i was thinking the same thing :D

I'd a Saab that was just nct'd and the engine blew about 20 miles later. Just having an NCT means you haven't to worry about trivial matters for 2 years!

If it has a bit of tax its a bargain. the 250td is pretty nippy too

Are Mercedes W202s and W210s really bangernomics candidates? I had the impression they were not particularly well-built rust buckets...

I wouldn't touch a 210 with a barge polo, I like them, but I've heard to many stories...

The 1994 2.8 202 that I had was a great car. Kept on going. Small rust patches bit nothing major.

compared to a 95 carina with 180k for 900 euro id know were my money would be going , there not a bad merc, pretty much the same as any around that year imo

Yeah and you'd be putting your extra 900 to tax it for the year ;)

I think you're missing the point though, they're two completely different cars for completely different people. Who ever buys that Carina (admittedly I can't see it making 900 euro) will be buying it to as a work horse, knowing it won't break (which it won't). Who ever buys the Merc will be someone who's always wanted one, can't afford more but sticks with the older one irrelevant to the year.

Hence why anything from a 00 Polo to a 95 S320 Merc could be considered bangernomics to different people :)

Personally I'd go for the Merc, purely because I hate Japanese cars. I doubt that Merc has only 106 on it.

have you taken into consideration the milage on this midlands , nearly 200k , i would not pay more than 400 euro for this , 900 is taking the p*ss

I know what yer saying, its just there's muppets out there that'll pay the near 900 for it - thats all I'm saying.
I would'nt bother with it either, I never liked the carina e's ..............E's are good, E's are good, its Ebineezer good :pac::pac::pac::pac::pac::pac::pac:

Merc for me also , Carina's while there bulletproof and go for ever , there well boring and bland in my opinion , i remember driving one for a few weeks a while back , god i couldnt wait to see the back of it zzzzzzzz.

Merc is good for longevity too. The 180 is a tad small for the size of car imo. My inline 6 was literally purring with 180k on it and started on the button every time :)

    The Merc...eeeeeeasy!

The W202 C-Class is garbage though. I'd nearly think twice about one if it was build quality and reliability I was after.

Not exactly bangernomics ...but for that price it could be a steal for an interested party so I had to put it up.

I read an article about them a while ago apparently they were really complex and had all sorts of fancy rear wheel steering and the like. Getting some of the spare parts like ECU`s is getting tricky now.
also a nice shade of Katie Price .

More like Crappernomics than Bangernomics but its got mountains of tax , a huge test , tiny mileage and it'll do 347 light years to a thimble of parafin. This thing will last longer than grandads brush. Bit rich for Bangernomics given that it has no cred what so ever but if it came home around 5 or 600 quid , someone is in for very cheap motoring ....

It's too nice to be called a banger and too expensive for this thread, but the price seems to be coming down nicely: http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2100795

    Only 200 ever made worldwide.

    quick car too.

That Carina does look tarted up for sale, but the Carina E is the ultimate bangernomic's car, cheap, easy to fix, most people know how to repair them with a brick, last forever, miser on petrol/diesel. Whilst Merc's on the other hand most of them at bangernomic money are leggy and tired, Merc's of the 90's dont age well.

Carina's for me 100%, just last weekend i drove my 94 Corona/Carina all the way round to coast of Ireland and with a few other boards.ie's, didnt miss a beat and that's with 416K clicks and doing 150 clicks on the N11 :pac:

    Viva Las Carina!!!!
