The Nct means little in terms of mechanical integrity, its not the be all and end all. The UK MOT inspires more confidence actually imho.

That's not the point though. The advantage of a long NCT is that you don't have to try and get the car through it yourself. You'd be silly to treat it as proof that it's good to go.

Off topic - wouldn't be too sure about the UK MOT, hardly the most impartial of systems.

And the clear winner back in '93 was...the BMW 7-series. Which was replaced only a year later by the E38 7-series which was miles ahead of the E32

Having the W124 E-class in the test instead of the S-class is weird though, isn't it?

Yeah, I was thinking the same, it doesn't make any sense .
Unless the 124-series was considered to be as good as their one class higher competitors ;).

Back in '93 it was the W140 S-class wasn't it? That would have won the group test hands down I reckon. Even if it weighs more than the Titanic :D

True... The W140 was called "The Best Car in the world" for a reason and I think there was no point putting it through the test, as it would have won :p.

Dunno Mick. Do I remember right that the 740 was $54k? An S-class would have been in or around the same price level as an equivalent 7-series.

Ya you would think so but I thought that might not be the case in america though for some reason.
I dont see any other reason why they wouldnt include it in the test

How did it get a test with that back number plate? Surely a visual failure.

Depends on now you define it ;)

Compared to that Volvo, the cinquecento costs a third to buy, a third to insure, a third in tax and a third in fuel, has several months tax and a very long NCT

It's probably the cheapest car to own for the next 2 years that's ever been posted on this thread...

All True... And the Cinquecento is also a third of the car comparing to the Volvo ;).
Anyway, each of these cars are for different people and both are good buys.

I actually don't know how the UK MoT operates at all; most of the locations it is carried out in are backstreet independent garages. Who is to know how reputable they are?

Someone who goes to boxing matches who has a good income would fancy that, sure Jim is sound :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

i know not all will like it, but damn. 2.5k would take it, maybe even less.

all CLs gone down in price alot. newer shaped ones were 15k, now theres a few 6-8k mark!

if we would need only 1 car in family, i would buy something like that and pay bigger tax. better to be in old fat luxo barge then in newish tin of beans.

unfortunatly when you got 2 cars and double insurance/tax/petrol/running costs such car is not an option :(.

What the hell is that? Never seen one of those.

    Looks like a C3 Audi 100 slowly morphing intp c4 audi 100

V8 never came with cloth interior, everything manual and on steel wheels so for that reason you can't find them in Ireland. Even manual gearbox was quite rare for these. :pac:
