Aside from the looney expensive CV joints what other issues do they have? (fuel use aside) :)

I thought it was only a few months ago you were raving about them and thinking of getting one?

I think I'm missing something here. I'm no fan of that generation Camry, but I was always under the impression that it was well built and had bulletproof reliabilty.

That was before i did my homework on them! CV joints €760 a side NOT FITTED cannot be gotten spurious. Gearboxes and HG's have a lifetime of about 50K miles regardless of maintence.

Oh and lucky to get 20MPG out of them, still they're a cracking looking motor and nice drivers.

Do thousands of taxi drivers that own them not know this before they bought one?

Do you mean Low Pressure Turbo?

They do run low boost but it is commonly referred to as light pressure turbo.

The swedes call it "lätt tryck turbo"

Ancient A3 with 1.6 petrol engine... its a give away or scrap.

Nah its cheap alright. Also i don't think a 1999 car is ancient. If the engine isn't fcuked & theres no major problems its a hell of a bargain.

Gutless & thirsty. They're a heavy enough car and the 1.6 struggles to get them moving. 1.8 is a much better choice.

I think its the 8 valve, gutless but will go forever, grand for a run about.

Which, not surprisingly, means 'light pressure turbo'.

I said that because it's why you call it light pressure turbo

Jesus I thought the last one was cheap but thats worringly cheap..:)

Even if it has problems I'd say it will be sold before the day is out.

You'd never know. Some people just look at the number plate as being 10+ years and think that it is worthless. Looks reasonably tidy though.

my dad had one and my cousin has one and both developed head problems and engine management light issues.

seemly the VVTi sensor is on the top of the head and it clogs up from time to time, they got around the issue by throwing in a can of that engine cleaner the day before an oil change and done this at every oil change.
