Picked up my first Bangernomics purchase this morning, no doubt the first step on a slippery slope :)

I bought a 98 Civic 1.4, 160K miles (not KM), loads of history including new brakes and pads at the last service and new exhaust system (not just the back box) earlier this year, same owner for the last 11+ years, NCTed until the middle of next year and taxed until the end of January 2012. The body has a few scrapes and dings and the alloys could do with some polishing but it's basically straight. Bought as I need a cheap runabout for a while but I probably won't keep it too long. Still, pleased with what I got for well under a grand.

As roverjames said its not worth much as people aint to interseted in a 3 ltr petrol these days unless it a BMW/MERC which is a shame as the 960 was miles better than both in my opinion

I know you'd expect me to say it, but these were a wonderful car and had a straight 6 that was easily a match for any BMW and probably better than what Merc had at the time.

It is a classic Volvo with a modern driving experience.

I wouldn't think so, it has a relatively new test and for a 1992 looks very straight, that engine will do 500k if serviced. I know of 2 carina diesels running on original engines with 850k and 923k miles on them. They are rough but running and tested, all original engines but are about to give up the ghost very soon.

'A Greek taxi driver, Gregorios Sachinides, presented the Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart with his trusty cab - a 1976 Mercedes 240D diesel with 4.6 million kilometres on the clock. It took only three motors for it to get to that millage

You may well have a point. Maybe its just me but isn't there something half tempting at seeing a Toyota advertised at handy money that makes you look twice and think....'its a toyota, its well worth a punt':)

For a reliability junkie like me that freely accepts drap non-exciting motoring, I always look at these kind of adverts/yokes a second time..

I wouldn't give that for a poverty spec diesel one of the same year, don't see that as value at all to be honest.

Edit, didn't see the 6 months tax. Value now in fairness with that (ish)

Don't believe everything you read on the net ;)

thought it wouldn't be too long till you came along roverjames. so it meets your criteria?

What are these like do you know? same k-series issues I pressume?

I dont see how it wouldn't be bangernomics if it checked out, and presumably if you waved 650/700 notes in his face he would bite

It isn't that there was just never anything nice about them from the looks to the interior to the awful reliability. I think an aunt of mine used to have a 96' one then got a 156 1.8 in 99'..

Actually yeah I suppose it is nearing 70k, that's obvious!:D

Yeah, with the tax it's bangernomics alright, not too tempting though, for €700 I reckon you'd get a much nicer one really. 6 months tax is a big plus though. They're a decent car, I'd have one over much of the competition of the time.

I was only on about the clocked comment, your quite entitled to reckon they were a hateful yoke. Not a model I was ever a big fan of in that guise really tbh.
