I think many people have to remember that just because a car has 6-7 months NCT doesn't mean it won't have a whole host of problems. It just means that it was mechanically sound 12-18 months ago

I don't think anyone who's into bangernomics would treat the NCT as proof of a car's condition, but if you're buying a car and happy to scrap it when the NCT is due, then a long NCT is obviously more desirable. In fact, that goes for any car you're buying really. It's a hassle you don't need to deal with for a good while.

True I was just saying that buying a car with 8 months left on it's NCT will not mean that it's mechanically sound it could even have 3 doors and 3 wheels and still have NCT left!

John is referring to a policy that will insure 15 year old cars as classics :)

I know that RJ and that's what I was correcting, First Ireland will insure some cars as classics once they reach 15 years old (Mercedes, Porsches etc) and allow them to be used as your main, or only, car. I know this for sure as I have such a policy with them. Mileage limitations still apply, various limits up to 10k miles, but it can be your only car and no need for another "normal" policy or any other type of motor insurance cover. I think my policy is underwritten by Chartis.

I was told my twenty year old CRX wouldn't qualify as it's a "mass-produced" vehicle. Load o' bo11ox, I'd be willing to bet good money there's far fewer of them around that there is old 911s or Minis.....

Well, I'm closer to Tom's age than Jacko's, so your theory may not hold that much water. :)

If this was there for around a grand it would be in my drive. He bought my towbar off me, I nearly cried when I saw how clean it was, it's genuinely immaculate.

    I'll bide my time :pac:

I'm sorry but 1k for a almost 14 year old diesel Mitsubishi with near enough 200k miles on it is just silly..

Will probably go for 7-800 though.

    Usual rules apply:

You must have another daily car with insurance policy, be over 25, have a full licence, be a member of IVETA etc.etc.

Also remember that any classic policy for a car at 15 years old will be the most stripped down basic policy known to man (third party only) and will have a mileage limitation of 5k miles per annum and unlike pre 1980's cars the NCT cert will back up the mileage

    I got it through http://www.campionins.com/

I haven't paid anything yet as I had a policy for a 30 year old car I took out in May and sold the car in June. They said to leave the policy and they would happily transfer it and give me the balance of insurance for free then charge me full price for the following 12 months. Good guys and understand the classic scene pretty well

    Page 3:

Why am I only learning this now!!!:eek::eek: The thought of driving my E34 again... :D:D:D

Edit: I'm 3 years too young :( Oh well, someday soon... ;)

It will probably go for ever. That said, with the tax (and a meager 140BHP for that 2.5l engine), no 7 seats and a manual gearbox, there really isn't much market for a car like that...

A 7 seat auto turbo petrol I would consider for that money :)

^^ How good (or otherwise) are they on diesel? Would you see the guts of 45mpg sitting on a motorway at 70mph for a 100 miles?

Looks like a good deal as well.

Sorry, swinging blanks here. Nevermind me....

Hey guys what do you make of this? I'm kinda new to bangernomics. Could you pick up a decent mk3 golf for around 500 ? Apart from the shortish nct and obvious damage to the body is there any other glaring problems with this?

That one looks to be a crate of sh1t, short NCT, body in bits, good lash of miles on it. If you're happy to drive it around 'till NCT is up it might be worth €400.

This needs to come down a bit in price (it is one of the cheapest T&T'd 75s on DD though), but my Dad had this car from new and sold it in 2006 with about 60k on the clock for 8500 when he upgraded to an S-type. It was always Rover serviced and was pretty much immaculate when we sold it requiring nothing. No idea how it's faired since - I see there is a nice new dent in the rear quarter but I used to see it around and it still looked in great nick. The V6 engine is a peach too.

If that had cream leather that would make that one very, very sweet car.

    He did well!!!

Ours is also an '01 and I also bought in '06 with 54k but paid only 6k

Did he dell it or trade it in? €8500 seems looney money for one of them in 2006 tbh.

This has been reduced again: http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/damagedcars/2646330
IF CAR IS NOT SOLD THIS WEEKEND I WILL SCRAP IT

    What an ignorant cnut.

I wonder does he know that if he did the small jobs that need doing he'd sell it for double that price. Instead he is threatning to weigh it in for a couple of hundred quid if no one gives him a grand by this weekend.

It's far too new a car to be scrapped.
