    The 166

The 166 is one of the best looking saloon's ever made :)

I'm just not a fan of Alfa's in general. That car looks like horrible if I'm being honest. I can see the attraction of the 159 but thats about it for me unfortunately. The face of the 166 looks like its been melted or something. I know I'm by far in the minority, especially on a Motors forum but I just find tit ugly.

That is one ugly Alfa :(

That colour with those wheels does nothing for me either. The pre-facelift just looks awkward to my eyes.

I have experience of matching, mixing and selling the paint if that counts :)
Ever think the Alfa sales guy was talking out his arse to sell a car that he wanted to sell to your ole lad?

    That does count ;)

He was actually doing the opposite really. He should have been trying to flog the pearl 166 to him but instead put him off it. My father ended up ordering his own one to his spec.

Someone please check out if this is genuine and then buy it. Extremely high spec, apparently low mileage and the best colour.

    Food for thought.

My focus met an untimely end last week, I'm considering bangernomics, but a clean mondeovensis seems a more sound proposition than anything here in recent times!

Is yours a V6?!! They need leather too, fabric is a big no in the 166.

Never shift your 166, ever! My old man is looking into buying his back at
    the moment!

If your old man wants one he can have mine.

    I love it but fancy a change. It's a 2.5 v6.

Although I got new break pads and a service done a few weeks ago so I might have to keep it for another while.

That example has been around for ages and it's the tax that kills it. A very clean example and of course it has that fantastic V6, manual would be preferable though.

The car is down as 2.0 in the advert, so I'd say it's a T Spark rather than the V6.

Tis called pearl. A misery to spray correctly

I remember Alfa offered some very similar shades to what were found on TVR's at the time. There was this pearl blue they did which had a hint of green in it.

I think it is a V6 alright because it has twin tailpipes, the T Spark only ever had one tailpipe and I have never seen a automatic 2.0l either. Most of the 3.0 V6's were auto too.

Just seen both adds think they are different cars altogether.

It is a banger, it's certainly not 'nomics, I'm just genuinely surprised there's one of these still in existance

    That's a good find actually.

Those old Primera's are also bulletproof.

That's what people always say. I owned one and it was the least reliable car I've ever owned. And I've never owned as new a car as that Primera, bought it when it was just 3 years old with low miles. Battery and alternator troubles and worn CV joints (at just 60k miles )

That Primera made me move from nearly new Japanese cars to older but much better built higher end German cars...

You'd be better off buyin a standard one and doing that to it yourself than buying a ready made skanger-tastic one.

I wouldn't call that a banger, if I had the money I'd snap it up. After owning 2 I can say they're the most reliable car I've ever had. How does one with 196k on the clock (100k on lpg) and another one with 350k with no major work needed sound? And still run after lying up for years after a turn of the key?

Do your research before you decide to slate a particular car

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,575 ✭✭✭166man

Has to be worth something, NCT and seven months tax. If it were to pass the NCT again in 4 months time it would be worth probably what you paid for it.

Well in fairness, your user name and location indicate that you might have a slight bias.

I think his slight bias comes from the fact that he knows Fiats like the back of his hand. What does location have to do with it? [Edit: used to say where he lived, nevermind!] :o

On topic: Seat Arosa for 650, but if you got it for 500, considering a full service history and its Nct, should see it into well next year. Nippy yokes too. http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2690305

Not really. The new turbo last week would cause some reason for concern.
