Really the lovely straight 6 is not a good wife for a 7-series big bloke husband :)

    You'll need a V8 in an E38...

Bargain! And a V8 to boot. I had the exact same engine in my E34 530iA. If the engine is still ok now, there's little chance it will suffer from the dreaded Nikasil issue.

That is the 3.0 M60 engine:

    wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M60

Check the casting serial number on the engine! :

    M60B30:
    1 725 970 - Nikasil
    1 741 212 - Nikasil
    1 745 871 - Alusil

Apparently this is the only way to see if it has the Nikasil lining!

Nice tidy V6 that you'd get for close to a grand. New test too ....

    I know :)

My point is that if the nikasil lined engine has survived so far, it is unlikely to develop the dreaded Nikasil problems in the future! Anyway, if it does, you just buy yourself another €1k E38 :D

It green! Black or blue for me :L

I'm going to tax the Saab tomorrow, I'll try keep it for two months or three... I probably won't though :P;)

I was thinking the same until I saw the manky Vectra dashboard that you'd be looking at from the drivers seat.

I drove a Nissan Sunny for a while - at least the Calibra looks better from the outside. You could decorate it with receipts from the co-op? That's the standard interior decoration of a Vectra isn't it?

Wouldn't bother me, red top Calibra for €850 that looks straight in the add, if I didn't have the e34 I'd buy that.

    Thinking the exact same myself.
I'd say the thing hunts up and down the gears with the auto box. Common enough I think.
MIght be worth a call. If there is an auto problem, then its not worth what he is asking.

Lads gettin rid of my car now and never thought bout going to sumtin like a beamer. im only 20 so is there any 3 series or anything out there i could afford. would have about 2.5k easy to spend. was going to get a bzr levin or similar but stumbled across this thread and ye have nearly converted me. any ideas. sum in this look nice but i worry about tax and insurance, although axa seem to want to insure me on nearly anything

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,257 ✭✭✭✭Eoin

2.5k might get you a tidy enough e36 318is which would be my choice if I was 20.
