No problems here. Start Firefox in "Firefox Safe Mode" and see if you still get those symptoms. I'm guessing it's the extensions.
Same result with FF in safe mode... Thanks for the suggestion though. :)

    Not your ornery onager

Belts done :) Could knock the next 2/3 years or so out of it without spending much except for an oil change every now and then.
Mark3 (actually it's a mark 4) Escort in the background too, genuine enthusiasts.

Tax til 6/12, NCT til 2/12

    575 all the same.
    Anyone know much about these?

Would it be worth a look or am I just better staying with my 1L and saving for something better?

Defo worth a look, the tax is worth a couple of hundred, short NCT though but that's why it's cheap.

This has been one seriously minded car. I don't know the owner, but I know where he got it.

Here are some more info on the car and the work that the owner has had done. It has to be the 'best' 156 1.6 in the country

    http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/republic-of-ireland/310172-its-official-my-156-is-up-for-sale.html

    http://www.octane.ie/forum/showthread.php?t=55968

I'm only posting cos I think it's a damn shame the fella has to sell it at this price. I hope he gets the asking.

Followed this with interest on AO Rep of Ireland forum.

That is a bloody minter. If I could afford to tax and Insure 2 motors I would be on it in an instant.

After all the work it's surprising that the variator wasn't replaced and that there is still a suspension issue....

"Variator makes a noise for the first 2 seconds or so when very cold outside every second day or so, but otherwise works fine. This will never leave you at the side of the road and has no ill effects apparently. Will need changing at the next Belt Interval. €120 for the part, labour is not much more when you are doing a belt change anyway.

Suspension up front is still making a bit of noise. I’ve had ti Autos look at it and they can’t trace it. They checked out the suspension and are happy with it. Most items have been replaced and it drives straight and true. It’s only really apparent over ramps, it’s probably just the poly bushes in the front ARB. "

Its been up on Donedeal a while now. Seen it there about two weeks ago maybe for €1550. Must have not been much interest in it then? Really nice car though, and if it was got for €1200 you'd be onto a great car.

Interior doesnt look to be native. I would say this came with grey interior originally and black leather was added later.

but for the current price who cares what it was before :D

1st gen of 156 is not a good buy, people heard too many bad stories about these ;] I'd love to buy it but this all seems to good to be true ;] I know the variator issues with these models and if its making that sound when started then it can go only worse, the variator will get louder and louder and the engine will start loosing power unless you replace the variator along with that other bit that also has to be replaced with it (sorry don't remember the name)

    Water Pump? Timing Belt?

You're incorrect about the Variator diesel sounds getting worse and worse. The reason it makes the sound is due some ring inside the casing wearing and some coil or spring rattling around inside.

Gerry in TI told me this himself and said it will never go bang on you, make the annoying diesel sound on start. Drove for a year on my worn variator.

I will say, I noticed a small improvement in fuel economy when I got it fixed. Maybe 1-1.5 mpg better than when it was worn. Again I was assured that it would have no bearing by Gerry but I can't help but say it improved when replaced.

    maybe my foot got lighter

looks nice and clean, could bargain to 800 and it would suit

only thing that concerns is it was advertised previously for about 1400 and now its 1100

I think most people want to get a 1.8T or TDi for "felting".

This could be a bargain buy... it is obviously not messed with and still has 100K+ miles live in it. The 1.6 is grand for normal world driving and saves you a few hundred on tax - probably covers the insurnace if you are 30+..

Is the 1.6 mated to the chocolate gearbox though? Might be worth having a listen to it if anyone was interested in buying it.

I'm very interested, currently looking for a saloon in good condition, 1500 max and this would be great, will give him a bell when i get paid in mid dec if the car is still there but i doubt that after posting it here :pac:

I actually rang this guy up 2 weeks back when the car was advertised for around 1400, kindly asked is there any chance for negotiation as very interested, he denied and informed no to bother coming over if you want to bargain at this car as its not going to work AND now i see the same car for 1100, so that's why i got concerned about this ;] to me it looks like there were few buyers already who rejected it and now the price is going doooown.

Not necessarily. I picked up a bargain banger last week and it had been advertised for nearly 3 weeks and only one phone call (no one had come to see the car, I was the first)

Very little appetite in the market for large petrol saloons. Excellent news if you're planning to buy one :D

595 bills, get it for 500. Just argue full tank of petrol and taxing it. Should be grand :D
