TSW stealth is the daddy obviously.

Aren't all TSW anyhow just re-branded Wolfrace wheels ?

Funny enough, the 1.6 engine is €720 vrt. They have official 1.8 petrol emissions figures (192 g/km) but none for the 1.6 so it defaults to the top rate of vrt.

    1.8 td is €480 (166 g/km)

    2.0i is €640 (195 g/km)

    All have omsp of €2000

No mention of cosworths but you can take it they'll be more :-)

I think €2000 is the minimum for any car now :(

The minimum OMSP has always been 2000 EUR. It's in the VRT rules. So the only way to bring it way down is proof of co2 figures.

I dunno is it, 2 months test left, it will be 15 years old, 3.0 tax. Doesn't have much going for it really considering a few hundred more could have you in a freshly NCTd one that would be half the cost to tax.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,874 ✭✭✭padma

Why would a freshly n.c.t'd one be half the cost to tax?

I was on about a freshly NCTd 2.0 Maxima :)

The way I see it is if you can afford to run it and tax it, why not go for it, it's a great car and would certainly beat driving around in a 1.2 polo. Bangernomics at it's best not cheaptorunamnomics

If you're in the 3.0+ tax bracket you may as well go for an LS400 or full fat 7er

    Can't agree with that, there's no hope I'll be buying a 4.4 V8 over a 2.8.

The "whole" it pulls the body better agrument doesn't wash with me in that case, a 4.4v8 is going to be alot hard on petrol than a 2.8i.

I doubt a 728i would be a whole heap more economical than a 740i in reality though..

    I reckon there'd be a big difference in a V8 and a straight 6 and minus 1.4 of a litre!

On paper yes there probably is a difference between the two, but in real world driving I doubt the difference would be that great really.

Before I got the 735 I test drove a 728. It was the only 728 I have driven but it was seriously underpowered IMO. May have just been a bag of sh1te. In my 7er I get about 30 miles for a tenner driving around Dublin, can't see a 728 being much better TBH. However I can get from Dublin to Galway and back on half a tank, i.e. €60 which is pretty repectable IMO for what it is. Either way there's not a whole lot of difference between the two where fuel is concerend and there's a whole lot more grunt.

Not so sure, I'll be buying a 2.8 if and when I do anyway!

You're fierce stubborn on this aren't ya?

E39's are the same, i.e. the 520 is underpowered, 523 is adequate and the 528 just about right. Same with 728; 735; 740.

Take a drive in them all before you do anything.

    Don't forget the 525 and 530!

The 525 is only marginally slower than the 528 and felt & sounded (to me) a bit nicer.

Looks quite nice alright, you'd probably make a tiny bit of profit on it too if you held onto it until May/June?

i'd agree with this, was set on a 728 till i drove one and while it is perfectly good car the 740 is so much better for the 2-3 mpg more it was.
(ended up with neither :( )
