Could see that doing classic car shows in ten years time. Awful ugly, I strangely still want one.

I read that part and wondered ... does it really need THAT much work that a garage is necessary?:D

The mothers 80+ year old Uncle bought one of those, leaving a shop in haste he said "The car didn't move at all, I was wondering what the problem was, then I realised the back wheels were spinning"

An old man doing a standing burnout in a Lexus Ls400 in broad daylight leaving a shop has to be hilarious. He burnt the tyres down to the wires as well :L

It may be the most basic Merc, but for €1,500 with a few months tax and test, it has to qualify!

Surprised this hasnt sold yet to be honest.

Only a few months NCT maybe the reason.

Looks like its fairly clean though if it was NCTable for a couple of years.

ps sorry if this was up already.

It's odd that the UK definition of Bangernomics is different to our own. Theirs is 'the shittiest car you can get for the cheapest price'. Ours is 'the the biggest engined, most reliable and luxurious car you can get for under e1500'. Odd considering the average Irish attitude to buying cars.

How much is the budget actually?

    I always thought:

Anything over €1,999 is way too much and doesn't count
Anything over €1,499 is still a bit much, but car dependant it's acceptable/
Anything under €1,499 is acceptable, car depedant!

And in my eyes it must have an NCT, or at least be bought and Nct'd within budget to qualify!

Having tax on it is just for gloating rights :P

Confab, where does it say that the UK definition is the ****tiest car etc and the Irish one the most luxurious? Is this just your opinion?

I think part of the fun of bangernomics is that when it comes to what arguing about what makes the best bangers, opinions vary wildly. I can see the attraction of buying big engined luxobarges because of the sheer amount of metal you get for your money, but do all the sums, including motor tax, fuel, insurance, cost of replacement parts, and you can understand why most ppl run a mile.

Smaller cars, chosen wisely, can make just as much bangernomic sense.

Examples: Ford Ka, VW Golf, Peugeot 106, just about any jap, Mk1 Ford Focus, VW Lupo, Skoda Fabia, Skoda Octavia to name but a few.

    Just my two cent.

First hit on Google says "Advice, tips and guides on how to buy and run a used car on a limited budget. Geared to UK consumers and vehicles.", the term being coined by a British journalist. No point in getting hung up on the semantics of a made-up word though.
Smaller cars, chosen wisely, can make just as much bangernomic sense.

True, and many smaller cars have been linked to from this thread. But having helped my sister search for a small car recently enough, my experience was that you'd generally need to spend 1500+ for a hatchback with a half decent spec.

Even if they were the same price as a big car, that's not really the point. The point is that rather than spending thousands and thousands on a small economical car, you can spend hundreds on a car that's a far nicer place to be. The increased running costs don't come close to the depreciation on a much newer car.

I'm confused...why does what appears to be a basic LX Mondeo on the outside have a Ghia X interior?

It also has a gear stick from a 6 speed model

Possibly transferred from a crashed one but still it all seems a little suspicious

A 5 door Mondeo is most likely a swimmer, no signs of registration plates, maybe it's not cleared yet

Or maybe it has a history.

Too many if's and buts I think.....

Only idea I can come up with that would be innocent is someone took the images from other ads or google.

Either way I reckon its a stinker
