You better put your money down so because it is SWB.

You sure of that? It sure looks LWB to me, and googling the owners phone number shows a previous donedeal ad, where again it was described as a LWB model.

85k on the clock, the interior tells a different story methinks:rolleyes:

Eh? The leather looks good to me for 86k and 15 years.

So with a fully traceable Irish Service history, and it being an Irish car from new, you reckon it's clocked??

I've seen 15 year old cars with twice the mileage with a much cleaner interior, it may be cosher but sets my alarm bells off

Whats unclean? Back is fine(not perfect, but fine), front has some wear under the pedals like all cars.

I dont know what it is but that S class looks terrible. I would worry about the mileage too. Even though the seller says full mercedes history, I would ike to know the definition of full in this instance! It just looks very tired to me. Id guess there are some rather large gaps or time lapses in that history

Tis all down to opinion I suppose. There's just something about this car, maybe on inspection it might turn out ok but from what I see there, as I said, the alarm bell tingles....it doesn't look like its been taken care of, the front bumper, side rail, back bumper, seats, foot wells, pedals....

Its not your car is it?:P

Nope! But mine is 7 years old, and even though I
    a)Park extremely carefully
b)Wash, polish and wax the car regularly
c)Don't let anyone smoke in the car, and rarely eat or drink in the car
d)clean and polish the leather regularly enough
The problems you have with the S-Class could just as easily be applied to mine!
I think the car looks dated. Not in bad nick, but just aged and dated. Are you sure you aren't confusing the two? :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 341 ✭✭Damie

I think Mick put it perfectly, it looks tired. I'm not confusing anything, trust me, my 93 golf van looked like it had 260k on the clock, but at least it did:D

If this was SWB, i'd buy it. LWB in this model is just a little overkill for my tastes.

    S500

    1500 euro. You'd get it for 1200 i'd say.

Full Mercedes SH, 2 Owners and 86k
I like that 8110 in the car .

I had one of those myself when it came out, Matrix-y:)

Yes, but this is a Mercedes, not a Rover :P :P

    (I joke)

It's ok, I've had to come to terms with driving a BL car.

    :(

FF Sake its 15 years old it has only two owners.

says full history, so unless proven otherwise why speculate the worst.

Only reason that looks tired is because interior shots were taken with a harsh flash, And black/black shows blemishes
Flash photography can make 3month old cars look tatty,

    also its only 1500 euro.
i'd nearly buy that sight unseen for that money if the history was faxed to me just to prove the naysayers of bangernomics wrong.

Yeah, I noticed that on second glance. Must be pretty old pics so.

Still worth a look for that money. Most have no service book and double the miles.

Completely agree. That and the worn floor matt give that impression.

You'll find a lot of people get a carkit installed that only works with a few phones, and as the years go by they keep the old phone purely because it works with the carkit.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

You have a 735 V8.... Well first off I'm very jealous. Second of all I'm still very very jealous.

Now can you tell me what the running costs are on yours as if I was to splash out on a 7 series it would be the V8 type that you have.

    Cheers.

I had an 735 E38 for 5 years. The only serious bill was for about a grand for a big suspension job at just under 140k miles. No other bills at all apart from regular servicing by my trusted independent BMW specialist garage. Total cost of ownership per year was less than it would have been compared with buying a 3 year old 1.4l Toyota Corolla or VW Golf and keeping it for 3 years.

The idea that newish sh1tboxes are cheap to own (because of the low motor tax ) is ludicrous...

Think the leather steering wheel and the seats are a bit shinny on the merc for genuine 86k.

If that S-class had twice the miles and the history it says it does, it would still be worth €1500.

If I had the space, i'd be buying that tomorrow. My mate has the same model in white and it makes the E38 look small!

    Small!!!???

Lean, mean, sleek compared to butch, square, obese, you mean surely?

The W140 is the only Mercedes I can think of from the last few decades that looks crap. MB could not have got the S-class more wrong than this one. Horrible! I love the looks of the W126 (I will own a 500SE one soon enough I keep telling myself) and the coming of the W220 was a big relief (hailed the best car in the world by most of the motoring journos back in the late 90s)

I already said that on closer inspection it might prove ok but the pics tell me to walk away, especially with the blue floor mat in the front passenger side!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,791 ✭✭✭JJJJNR

Carzone gives a bit more detail, and it looks genuine with the full MB SH.

I'd trust it more if that were the case tbh

    Wut??? Service history? Owners??

I think were getting away from bangernomics and more, ''Barges on a Budget''

Bangernomics is buying a car with NCT and Tax left and that stops starts and drives.

Barges on a Budget is buying a executive saloon for as little as possible.

C'mon, a blue floor mat? It's a sub 2k car. How does that matter in any way? A minor cosmetic issue at most. It's all about the mechanicals at this stage of the cars life.

It seems you're grasping at any straw in an attempt to justify your original assessment (wrongly imo) of it being a dud.

  • Registered Users Posts: 341 ✭✭Damie

I dont have to justify anything, its my opinion.
I thought that was the whole idea of this thread was, to voice opinion on posted cars. The blue mat just adds to the long list of items that tells me that this car needs to be checked out properly.
Things just dont add up for me but if 2 + 2 = 5 is ok in your head then off you go and buy it...enjoy

Honestly, if that car was up for 3 grand no one would say a thing about it
