You had a poorly maintained, driven to the ground example. There are worst ones that have been scrapped already and some better ones that will keep on going for years ;).

Really, did you drive it ? Did you do the work (not much I may add if I could do it) on it to get it past the NCT ? When you get rid of yours you will no doubt appreciate that they are an over rated car. You were at one time considering spending over €5000 (more iirc) on one but saw sense eventually in that regard :) Anyone who considered paying €5000+ for a non AMG W124 definitions of driven to the ground is no doubt a tad off the mark anyway. Cheers for the comment anyway.

The boarded up windows in the background may make this a less attractive deal now that I've looked again

Maybe but the aim of bangernomics has nothing to do with pleasurable motoring!

Look up Bangernomics and James Ruppert. Its about a-b transport at the cheapest possible.
I have no problem with people buying a 10 year old car for 2k that cost 100k new. There is great enjoyment in doing this and you can get a cracking car, this however is not Bangernomics in the true sense of the word.

Isn't that inherently pleasurable motoring, though?

Either way, Boards Bangernonics is a broader church. :D

I didn't like the location and the fact it is parked up. I'd say it could do with a run through the Garda pulse system.

Sure, I didn't drive yours, just got the impression from what you said ;).
I did a lot of work on a W124 including my current one, which when I bought it was just after passing the NCT with the previous owner and... the rear self leveling suspension was gone :D - that is how much the NCT sticker is worth (as long as both sides are gone, the car will pass). I know, almost every 10+ year old car in this country is worth close to nothing in fairness, due to poor maintenance and tough life in the pass.

I would still consider buying a good 124(T) example, but good examples are non-existing ones in Ireland and going abroad to get one is pure madness these days. There is a long list of cars that I would love to own until I can. Why the dreams are so tough to materialise ;)?
    Cheers :).

just for something a bit different from the norm how about a clean looking, recently NCT'd Alfa 156

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1709390

I'd nearly pick it up for a second car for that price.

The seller is telling porkies, it's a 1.3 according to MyWheels.

The trim is all wrong for a Japanese model (see here and here, note rear number plate, badge on front, sidelights/indicator repeaters), also there was no XLi trim level there.
