Not pretty but a lot of car for 850 quid. (i'd say he'd take the hand off you if you offered 700 cash.) Lowish mileage is encouraging. Half decent motorway cruiser at best.

The earlier Sonata were a much better looking car, that yoke is rotten, value though.

Have booked it in for NCT next Sunday. There are few problems - last night had to disconnect battery terminal to kill the radio, air conditioning doesn't seem to be working and needs timing belt done properly because engine sound a little bit like diesel, needs new thermostat and airbag light came on this morning. It's a nice car to drive otherwise.

A worn timing belt wont cause that!

My father had two of these....I loved driving them as they were a hoot to drive.

Whatever you do don't powerhose the engine.........as my father decided to do one day.........the dash lit up like a christmas tree :D and it took a long time to sort it all out!

I think that is something to do with the variators....my old 147 sounded a bit like that at startup but i never did bother to get it fixed...

    edit: info here

Seems way overpriced for the last of the 306's. I've seen plenty of the newer 307's going for not far off that price.

I reckon they'll get nearer to €2000 than €1400 for it, 3 door 306 turbo D are quite sought after in certain circles.

I've got a question, if you've got an expensive car with higher insurance then you sell it and buy one these bangers which should have a lower insurance, would you get a refund from the insurance guys?

Also how would it go down with the insurance people if you keep changing your car every year or twice a year??

Cuz surely you wouldn't wanna be driving these things for long...

First off your insurance may not become lower by changing to an older cheaper car. It may if you go 3rd party. Some insurance companies will load the policy with a charge on cars over 15 years old.

    Looks like a good deal.
Can only imagine that when it comes to mileage that the words JAMES, T and KIRK come to mind.

It is however one of those cars where mileage is somewhat irrelevant, timing belt and pump done aswell.
And NCT, what's not to like.
    Good find.

Like if its a nice BMW or some other luxo car, then you'ld consider having it for long.

But wouldn't you get bored of old cheap toyotas, nissans and mazdas...

I use cars as a form of transport, A-B stuff. For this type of transport I would not use some old complicated luxo barge. I would as you put it use "old cheap toyotas, nissans and mazdas..."
I prefer to spend my money on other pursuits, each to there own.
