Might wake Lewis up a bit, at times he thought he just had to show up to win.

He was doing too much exhibitions lately and not taking the floor tournaments serious enough. I can't imagine ITV4 will be thrilled about the World Champion not been on their TV tournament!

The 1st tournament of the season gets under way today out in Spain with the Benidorm Players Championship taking place this weekend. Recent arrivals from the BDO Ted Hankey and Dean Winstanley are both playing. Adrian Lewis and Phil Taylor are notable absentees. A horrendous start by the ex BDO boys in Spain! Hankey beat in the prelim round and Dean Winstanley and Tony West both knocked out in 1st round! Brendan Dolan and Willie O'Connor both into 2nd round.

Ian White hits a 9 darter in his 6-4 first round win over Mark Hylton.

    Huybrechts beat Winstanley.

i cant say im surprised, if Huybrechts plays like he did in the worlds, then he's easily in the best 16 players in the PDC.

he's an exceptional player. I think he'll have a big year!!

An unlikely enough quarter finals lineup. Must be a very nervous first tournament of the year for many.

    Quarter-Finals
    Justin Pipe v Shaun Griffiths
    Ian White v Darren Whittingham
    Wes Newton v Magnus Caris
    Mark Walsh v Paul Nicholson

Sounds as if Ian White is playing great stuff. No money earned at all for Ted Hankey, Dean Winstanley, Tony West, Chris Mason or Peter Manley. No sign of Steve West, Robert Thornton or Andy Jenkins.

Delighted to see Ian White and Shaun Griffiths reaching the quarter finals. A good start to Darren Whittingham's PDC career after just winning a tour card at Qualifying school last week. Interestingly half of the players that won tour cards last week aren't playing in this event.

Justin Pipe beat Paul Nicholson 6-0 in the final.

I wonder if he bored Nicholson into submission

Sunday’s player’s championships have started. And in the Preliminary Round Brendan Dolan Beat Bernd Schmidt 6-1. Dean Winstanley also beat Ted Hankey6-1Ted. Not a good start for Hankey. Also Kirk Shepherd beat Brian Woods 6-5. Has woods ever won a game in the PDC??

Into the first round for the Irish

    The games are as follows
Boris Krcmar v Brendan Dolan Not played yet
William O'Connor 6-2 Jose Luis Rodriguez
I can’t see any more Irish in the draw.

    Other games of interest

Alex Roy beat Mervyn King 5-5
Chris Mason lost 6-3 to Steve Grubb
Dean Winstanley beat Terry Temple 6-4
Peter Manley beat Simon Craven 6-3
Tony West beat Co Stompe 6-3
The rest of the first round games are still going on.

What's the craic with this tournament. How come there's different competitions over the two days??

Mason lost first round again so no money for the weekend, Hankey goes home penniless as well. Willie O' Connor beaten second round both days so picks up £400. Manley managed to get to second round too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 213 ✭✭Trigger13222

Might of been said already but how come Mason can play in this.Taught he had no card.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,294 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kingp35

You are allowed play in all UK Open Qualifiers and all Non-UK Players Championships if you have no tour card. Also he is high on the list of replacements for the UK based players championships so if players pull out he might still get in.

Justin Pipe into the semi-finals again today, he seems unstoppable on the floor at the moment!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,328 ✭✭✭dartbhoy

Final just starting with once again Justin Pipe playing Michael Smith from Liverpool. Smith beat Wade 6-4 in semi while Pipe pipped Matt Clark 6-5 in the other. Dean Winstanley bowed out in the 4th round but earned £600 for his day's work. Also a good day for 2011 Lakeside quarter finalist Ross Smith who reached the quarter finals today and earned himself a nice £1000 towards the rankings.

Limerick's Willie O'Connor had another 6-5 defeat in the 2nd round just like yesterday. He earned £400 over the weekend but with a bit of luck it could have been so much better.

Pipe fails to make it 2 final wins in a row as he's defeated 6-3 by Michael Smith. This is Smith's first players championship floor title. He won a UK Open qualifying event last year. He is only 21 and definitely one to look out for in the future. Good weekend overall for a lot of the lesser ranked players like White,Clark and Griffiths.

This weekend is the first 2 rounds of the UK Open qualifiers with Les Wallace making his debut in the PDC this weekend, link; www.pdc.tv/page/NewsdeskDetail/0,,10180~2604516,00.html

Paddy Meaney put Dave chisnall out 6-5 in the prelims.
    Great result

Willie O' Connor into the Fourth Round so far today after beating Terry Jenkins in the third and has at least £600 which guarantees his spot in the UK open after only one event! Great performance from Willie so far and he plays Dean Winstanley in the fourth Round.

Well done to Connie Finnan too as he beat Ted Hankey on the way to a third round exit where he picked up £400 and again almost makes sure he has a spot in the UK open. One more second round appearance and he's there.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,294 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kingp35

And Willie beats Winstanley 6-5 to get to the Quarter Finals. Willie is really showing his talent now. Come on and win it!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,328 ✭✭✭dartbhoy

Willie's run came to an end in the quarter finals where he was defeated 6-4 by Kevin Dowling but well done Willie, that's more like the form that you can produce and hopefully we'll see him starting to reach quarter finals and semis regular in the floor tournaments in order for him to qualify for the big TV tournaments. Also well done to Connie Finnan on defeating 2 times Lakeside World Champion Ted Hankey.

1 semi on at present between Whitlock v Huybrechts. It was 3-3 in the last update. Dowling plays the winner of Newton v Baxter in the other semi.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,328 ✭✭✭dartbhoy

Newton beats Huybrechts in final 6-3.

Both Brendan Dolan and Michael Mansell have reached today's 4th round. Dolan has been beaten by Roland Scholten 6-3 while Mansell faces Dave Chisnall in his game. Willie O'Connor had no luck with the draw today drawing current Players Championship rankings number 1 Justin Pipe in the prelim round and was in hard luck to lose out 6-5 to Pipe.

0-1 - van Gerwen hits scores of 140 and 180 and lands double eight for a 13-dart finish.
0-2 - van Gerwen breaks immediately, finishing double top at the first time of asking.

A great win for Van Gerwen and a 9 darter to top off a great victory. Further signs that this kid might be finally fulfilling his potential.

I think Van Gerwen is a good player but for me he blows hot and cold too often. Dont think he is able to handle the pressure of the big arenas and big crowds and for that reason I dont think he is going to be as good as he could be.

Not a bad day at all for the Irish Mick McGowan made the 2nd round losing 6-5 after 2 6-5wins, nice to see him finding a small bit of form again.

A weekend of players championship events in Reading with today's event under way already. Ted Hankey lost in the 1st round again to Jason Crawley 6-4. Another notable 1st round casualty was James Wade who was defeated by top Belgian player Kim Huybrechts.

On the Irish front both Willie O'Connor and Brendan Dolan are through to the 2nd round while Michael Mansell was unlucky in his 6-5 1st round defeat to Barneveld. Phil Taylor has hit a 9 dart finish in his 6-1 win over Tony West in the 2nd round.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 482 ✭✭Treble20

Connie Finnan won his 1st round game and now has just beat Colin Osborne 6-5 in the 2nd round. Another good win for Brendan Dolan defeating John Part 6-2 in the 2nd round. Willie O'Connor unlucky to lose out 6-5 to Dave Chisnall in the 2nd round,Willie has lost so many games 6-5 in the PDC floor tournaments it's unreal!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 482 ✭✭Treble20

Reading Players Championship day 1 final result; Phil Taylor 6 Wes Newton 1. Both Finnan and Dolan went out in the 4th round but both earned £600 for their day's work. Today was Connie's 1st players championship event so well done to him.

He's hitting them for fun this weekend. Might see another in the Premier League?

Semi final now from the Player's Championship.

    Dave Chisnall 0-0 Steve Beaton
    Kim Huybrechts 1-1 Phil Taylor

Chisnall v Taylor final. Furthest Irish player today was Brendan Dolan who reached the 4th round before running into Taylor! £400 earned today by Connie Finnan and overall £1000 earned over the weekend which is a good start to his ranking on the players championship order of merit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 482 ✭✭Treble20

Final result; Chisnall 6 Taylor 5:) Averages Chisnall 101.20 Taylor 104.44

Huybrechts is showing some serious form in the floor tournaments this year I might have a punt on him for the next tv major

Round 3 of the UK Open qualifiers was held today in Barnsley and once again Phil Taylor was a tournament winner defeating Brendan Dolan 6-2 in the final. Well done to Dolan on his great run today which guarantees him his place in the UK Open grand finals in June and probably a place in the top 32 rankings for the event.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 482 ✭✭Treble20

UK Open round 4 Qualifiers on today and it's down to the semis stage with Phil Taylor playing ex BDO World finalist Dean Winstanley and Dennis Smith awaiting the winner of Darren Webster v Denis Priestley in the other semi. Brendan Dolan and Connie Finnan were the 2 furthest Irish players today with both reaching the 3rd round and earning £400 in the process.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 482 ✭✭Treble20

Phil Taylor won today's qualifier final against Denis Smith 6-3. Richie Burnett hit a 9 darter today to add to yesterday's achievement by Steve Farmer. That's 4 floor tournaments in a row now that 9 darters have been hit! Phil dedicated his victory today to the late great Jocky Wilson.

This has been neglected far too long.what happened to the ever reliable Dartbhoy?

Anyway 2 big surprises in the players championships this weekend.a veteran and young gun prevailed although to look at both you wonder which was whch.

On saturday Ronnie Baxter beat Adrian Lewis 6-3 in Birmingham.Notable for the run of colin "former world number one" lloyd beating barney and anderson before losing to Lewis.

Also in Birmigham today Michael Van Gerwen beat Simon whitlock 6-1 in the final after destroying Justin Pipe 6-1 with a 109 average in the quarter final. And Ted Hankey continued his awful form losing 6-3 to Kevin Mcdine in the first round.

Nearly 2 months without an update but there was action in scandanavia over the weekend with 2 pro tour events in finland

Today - cross channel stalwart Jarkko Komula beat Ulf Cedar 6-1 in an all finish final, winnin his second pro tour event in scandanavia this year.

A big talking point yesterday was Robert Wagner who won yesterdays event beating Cedar (Him again!) in the final.interviewed shortly after the final he was full of praise for the PDC and called the BDO a shame.interesting as I would have put him in the same bracket as pre-defecting Ted.

A video of events is here.Wagners interview is about 26 minutes or so in.

After a 6 week break tournament action resumed last weekend with the German Masters taking place and Adrian Lewis emerged as winner defeating the ever Improving Ian White 6-1 in the final.

This weekend 2 players championship events took place in Barnsley with Ian White reaching yesterday's final but he was defeated 6-1 by Michael Van Gerwen who was in blistering form recording a 107.85 average in the final! Simon Whitlock won his 1st PDC event for 2 years this evening defeating Andy Hamilton 6-4 in the final.

A players Championship event in Crawley today with Simon Whitlock winning the final 6-2 over the legend Dennis Priestley. Priestley still chucking good arrows at 62,an amazing player.

Michael Van Gerwen won today's Players Championship event defeating Ian White in the final 6-5 after going down 4-0 at one stage! Grand Slam Of Darts draw been done tomorrow,it starts next Saturday November 10th.

This weekend marks the last chance for players to qualify for next weekend's Players Championship grand finals and the World Championship later next month with the Barnsley Players Championship events taking place.

Today's event saw Phil Taylor reach the final but he was outdone in the final by Dave Chisnall who won 6-3 with an amazing 111.81 average! This is a welcome return to form for Chisnall who has not been at his best for the past few months but seems to be recovering his best form at the right time with the Players Championship finals and Ally Pally just around the corner.

Great run for Dennis Priestley too who reached the quarter finals and only narrowly lost to Van Gerwen 6-5. It's great to see that he can still throw a mean arrow
