Round 3 of the UK Open qualifiers was held today in Barnsley and once again Phil Taylor was a tournament winner defeating Brendan Dolan 6-2 in the final. Well done to Dolan on his great run today which guarantees him his place in the UK Open grand finals in June and probably a place in the top 32 rankings for the event.

UK Open round 4 Qualifiers on today and it's down to the semis stage with Phil Taylor playing ex BDO World finalist Dean Winstanley and Dennis Smith awaiting the winner of Darren Webster v Denis Priestley in the other semi. Brendan Dolan and Connie Finnan were the 2 furthest Irish players today with both reaching the 3rd round and earning £400 in the process.

Phil Taylor won today's qualifier final against Denis Smith 6-3. Richie Burnett hit a 9 darter today to add to yesterday's achievement by Steve Farmer. That's 4 floor tournaments in a row now that 9 darters have been hit! Phil dedicated his victory today to the late great Jocky Wilson.

This has been neglected far too long.what happened to the ever reliable Dartbhoy?

Anyway 2 big surprises in the players championships this weekend.a veteran and young gun prevailed although to look at both you wonder which was whch.

On saturday Ronnie Baxter beat Adrian Lewis 6-3 in Birmingham.Notable for the run of colin "former world number one" lloyd beating barney and anderson before losing to Lewis.

Also in Birmigham today Michael Van Gerwen beat Simon whitlock 6-1 in the final after destroying Justin Pipe 6-1 with a 109 average in the quarter final. And Ted Hankey continued his awful form losing 6-3 to Kevin Mcdine in the first round.

Nearly 2 months without an update but there was action in scandanavia over the weekend with 2 pro tour events in finland

Today - cross channel stalwart Jarkko Komula beat Ulf Cedar 6-1 in an all finish final, winnin his second pro tour event in scandanavia this year.

A big talking point yesterday was Robert Wagner who won yesterdays event beating Cedar (Him again!) in the final.interviewed shortly after the final he was full of praise for the PDC and called the BDO a shame.interesting as I would have put him in the same bracket as pre-defecting Ted.

A video of events is here.Wagners interview is about 26 minutes or so in.

After a 6 week break tournament action resumed last weekend with the German Masters taking place and Adrian Lewis emerged as winner defeating the ever Improving Ian White 6-1 in the final.

This weekend 2 players championship events took place in Barnsley with Ian White reaching yesterday's final but he was defeated 6-1 by Michael Van Gerwen who was in blistering form recording a 107.85 average in the final! Simon Whitlock won his 1st PDC event for 2 years this evening defeating Andy Hamilton 6-4 in the final.

A players Championship event in Crawley today with Simon Whitlock winning the final 6-2 over the legend Dennis Priestley. Priestley still chucking good arrows at 62,an amazing player.

Michael Van Gerwen won today's Players Championship event defeating Ian White in the final 6-5 after going down 4-0 at one stage! Grand Slam Of Darts draw been done tomorrow,it starts next Saturday November 10th.

This weekend marks the last chance for players to qualify for next weekend's Players Championship grand finals and the World Championship later next month with the Barnsley Players Championship events taking place.

Today's event saw Phil Taylor reach the final but he was outdone in the final by Dave Chisnall who won 6-3 with an amazing 111.81 average! This is a welcome return to form for Chisnall who has not been at his best for the past few months but seems to be recovering his best form at the right time with the Players Championship finals and Ally Pally just around the corner.

Great run for Dennis Priestley too who reached the quarter finals and only narrowly lost to Van Gerwen 6-5. It's great to see that he can still throw a mean arrow

Just after reading the updated players championship rankings and after today's event Chisnall is now the number 1 ranked player after today's victory with Wayne Jones after creeping into the 32nd position with tomorrow's event left to decide the final 32 line up.

In the World Championship countdown in the players championship rankings of players outside the top 32 main rankings a number of players are tied on £6800 earnings in the 15th-17th positions with 16 players to earn places from those rankings. Michael Mansell is on £7000 in 14th position and looks poised to qualify however a good day tomorrow would ease the path through for him. In the main rankings the top 32 are safe with no changes to that list regarding tomorrow's action.

The 2nd UK Open qualifier tournament took place today and well done to Brendan Dolan who had a great day reaching the final but went down 6-2 to a very much in form Michael Van Gerwen who recorded his 2nd tournament victory in a row.

Brendan had a great 6-5 win over Barneveld in the semis while Van Gerwen defeated Peter Wright 6-2. Another 9 darter was recorded today by Welsh player Kevin Thomas. Connie Finnan and Keith Rooney both reached the 4th round and won £400 each for their efforts.

Most of the Irish lads managed to be pick up some money over the weekend so it was a good weekend in all.

Two notable players that were back playing were Ted Hankey and Jelle Klaasen with neither of them earning any money all weekend.

Their down to the quarter final stages in the UK Masters this evening and Andy Hamilton has finally broke his duck,he has finally beat a certain Phil Taylor! Hammer wins 6-3 and plays surprise package Stuart Kellett in the semi final after Stuart beat Robert Thornton 6-1 in his quarter final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 482 ✭✭Treble20

The UK Masters final has ended and John Part is the champion after defeating qualifier Stuart Kellett 6-4 in the final. Part defeated Adrian Lewis in the semi 6-2 to earn his place in the final while ex BDO Winmau World Masters runner up Kellett defeated Andy Hamilton 6-3 in his semi. Hamilton will be disappointed with not getting to the final after he defeated Phil Taylor 6-3 in his quarter final. A good weekend so for Part and he'll be happy with the £20,000 winning cheque.

Delighted for Part, that's a great win in a tournament that might not be televised but is still played on stage in front of a huge crowd.

2 more UK Open qualifying tournaments were held this weekend in Wigan.

Yesterday Michael Van Gerwen continued his incredible winning run in these qualifiers when he won his 3rd tournament in a row defeating Michael Smith 6-2 in the final and guaranteeing himself the number 1 seeding for the UK Open in Bolton in June.

Today Van Gerwen had another great run before he was knocked out at the semi final stage by last year's UK Open champion Robert Thornton. Thornton went on to claim today's final defeating Jamie Caven 6-4.

Phil Taylor was a notable absentee this weekend so will have to compete in the last 2 qualifiers in order to qualify for the Grand finals. There's definitely something not right with Taylor at present. While he'll be expected to at least reach 1 of the finals of the last 2 tournaments it's unlike him to leave it to the last 2 tournaments to book his place in Bolton. Still Phil will be 1 of the favorites come June in Bolton.

The European Darts Trophy was held this weekend in Germany with the tournament been completed this evening.

In the final Wes Newton played Paul Nicholson with Newton winning a ding dong affair 6-5 with both players missing numerous doubles throughout the game. Newton beat Austria's Mensur Suljovic 6-4 in his semi final with Nicholson defeating the new number 2 in the World Michael Van Gerwen 6-2 in the other semi.

Phil Taylor,Adrian Lewis,James Wade,Simon Whitlock and Raymond Van Barneveld were notable absentees for this tournament.

The 5th and 6th rounds of UK Open qualifiers were held on Saturday and Sunday in Wigan. Once again Michael Van Gerwen was in brilliant form over the weekend reaching the finals both days.

On Saturday Van Gerwen defeated Phil Taylor in the quarter finals but he suffered a heavy defeat in the final from Simon Whitlock 6-1.

On Sunday Van Gerwen won the final pipping Belgian Kim Huybrechts 6-5 to claim the £6000 prize money. However the big talking point from Sunday's action was the shock defeat of Phil Taylor in the 3rd round from youth player Josh Payne 6-3.

Taylor earned £1200 over the weekend and has definitely earned a place for himself for the UK Open grand finals in June but he will be disappointed that he hasn't assured himself a top 32 place in the rankings after this weekend gone. With 2 qualifying tournaments left Taylor will no doubt will be going all out in them to get that top 32 position. Van Gerwen will be the number 1 seed for June's event after winning 4 of the 6 qualifying tournaments already.
