Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I had laser surgery done, not from Therapie but from a reputable beauticians. It didnt hurt me - just a mild brief stinging sensation.

I had it done on my arms - had about 4 sessions, and it definitely worked. The hair was reduced; not completely bald though but I didnt want it to be, not on my arms! But the disclaimer form I signed at the start of the treatment stated that it was hair REDUCTION not hair REMOVAL so you will probably need many sessions to get rid of all the hair.

Research your beauticians OP and definitely go for it. It is expensive but the results are priceless. I didnt wear T-shirts for years because I was so self conscious of my arms and now I take bare arms for granted!

I am in the middle of laser hair removal on my chin and neck - stems from medication given to me when i was younger, anyway i'm from dundalk and having it done in a trained beuatician.
It was explained to me before we started the hair had to be dark ie. black for it to take effect. The contrast between the hair and the skin has to taken into account.
The laser is quite sore (especially on my neck) but you can put up with it. Its like an uncomfortable warm sensation. Its been 2 months and certainly not been cheap but it is working and has been worth it. Still a bit to go.
My advice would be to check with a qualified experienced specialist to see if it will work. If they are reputable they will give you proper advice.

I also found it to be a waste of money. I had my underarms done a few years in a salon in Balbriggan. You sign a form, which calls the treatment 'Hair Reduction' rather than 'Hair Removal' even though its usually advertised as 'Hair Reduction'. After the first five sessions, I did see a significant improvement. However, I did have a re-growth which subsequent sessions did not successfuly remove. I was quite surprised it didn't work because I have dark hair and the beautician could not properly why it didn't work.

I attended a consultant in a hospital for laser for 2 years. I am very dark and was told i was perfect for it. It never fully worked it slowed the growth but never got rid of it.
It can be sore in certain places and they used to give me ice cubes to put against the areas to cool it down.
Everyone is different so it might work for you but it is expensive

Mine was covered by VHI because it was part of a medical condition but when i got the reciept it was over a grand, that was paying the consultant and for the laser for a few sessions.
If you go to a beauticians it would be way cheaper not sure how much but i guess between 100- 250 or sometimes they will do a package for a few sessions for a few hundred

I was asking because I actually got my chest waxed today in a place in Dunville (its behind ranelagh, at the Luas Beechwood stop) - Only took 20-25 mins!

They were very good and the lady mentioned that they were doing 50% off laser hair removals and that typically after 6-8 sessions the hair is removed. But they never mentioned the price so I got worried about the actual cost.

    www.papillonskincare.ie is the website.

I know this post sounds like an advert..but hey people were asking - it may be of assistance!

p.s. I know the OP mentioned cork, but I'm sure there's some jackeens awatchin' ;)

My mother got it done in Advanced Laser Light in South Terrace, no idea of cost, but she was happy with the results.

Yes laser hair removal hurts, but it is not forever, and there are herbal things you can use that will not hurt your stomach flora. Or if you are really healthy you could probably handle the pain meds. Some people take pain meds before they go in, thats what I hear anyway. The second thing I wanted to say is I got my laser hair removal work done at Baywood Clinic. It worked out perfect and the price is pretty good too. They have very sought after surgeons there and they do fantastic work.

It can be quite painful the area stays red for anything up to 24hours depending on your skin type, with me my eyes watered constantly.I have had laser hair removal done in Therapy laser Clinic in Molesworth Street Dublin and all I can say is you may as well get your large sum of money and rip it up. They dont tell you in the beginning that if you are fair or red head it wont work. I had approx thirteen sessions and had no luck with hair removal also on the last session they burned my upper lip. so if i was you try something else. Sorry for the doom and gloom but I wished someone had told me the truth and I would be a lot wealthier.

I had it done in Therpaies too and have found it to be very successful. I got full leg, bikini line and underarms done and am very happy with it. I had 6 sessions on some parts and have had 9 on others. I have a few stragglers left but have a top up treatment once every 12/14 months and that takes care of them.
Yes it does hurt, I found the underarms very painful but if I had that done first then the rest didn't hurt so much. The ankle area of my lower legs hurt too but the rest of it was all fine, a little sore yes but certainly worth it. Yes your skin will stay red for 24/36 hours afterward, my skin is very sensitive and stayed red for this long.
I was told when I went in inititally that it wasn't succesful on fair hair but as I am an oddity i.e fair hair on my head but dark on my legs etc it wasn't an issue. Also I am super pale skin wise so perhaps for that reason it worked better on me than for other people.

are u aloud 2 shave after its all done or does ur hair keep growing back

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 196 ✭✭shed head

i hear it's best not to shave for up to 4 -5 days afterwards,
people don't think it works as they still see the hair growing, however it is in fact the hair being pushed out of the follicle, obviously repeat treatments are necessary to get them all/stubborn hairs, the argument is also there it only works for a while and the hairs grow back, somewhat finer though!! don't ask how i heard this ha

My Derma http://myderma.ie/?page_id=8# on Bath Avenue had a special offer on Groupon recently. 100 Euro for 3 small areas.
It may sound like a clinic, but trust me it is one shabby room that has been filled with the look-alikes of a professional environment.

I went for a consultation and got the impression to have the most uneducated person, who has perhaps not even finished primary school, posing as a professional. :( It felt like she used to be a toilet cleaner and a her sister who is running this hoax shuffed that laser gadget into her hands, gave her a doctor"s white coat and told her how to switch the machine on and off, oh and of course told her how to write a bill.

She rushed me, saying we do not have much time to talk because I was 5 minutes late, asked me inappropriate personal questions, did not answer one of my questions of concern about this treatment directly, very evasive ( maybe she used to a politician not a toilet cleaner) no emotional intelligence or empathy of any sort, not even following the basic rules that every health professional knows, ie. tell your clueless patient what you are going to do next, before you do it to them when doing the patch test. Not everyone knows what this procedure is! ( Simple gestures ) These are basics !! and indicator of what the outcome would have been, if I actually had gone ahead with that treatment.

I feel VERY VERY sorry for all the people out there who wasted nowadays very very valuable 100 Euros.

In my mind this is not a high amount to ensure my safety :) I happily crunch this voucher up and put it ( 100 Euro ) in the bin. I would not even give this to my worst enemy.
I would NOT feel save in this place and would fear for my health and well being. I rather keep plugging hairs for the rest of my live.

Laser is not regulated in Ireland and is therefore not safe and looking at the jokers who offer the treatment and seeing their lack in education is very very scary !!

People need to remember this. Laser is not regulated in Ireland. Therefore anyone can say they offer laser when they don't. Sure I could get on of those crappy No No things and offer laser

The only places I know of that I have used that offer laser are Therapie and Eccles clinic. Both use the high grade Candala machine. Probably others but I have only used these two (currently eccles who are great)

Most places offer IPL not laser but will tell you it's laser
