Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I just can't stand the way Liverpool fans hero worship him.

Why shouldn't we worship him. He's one of the great players in world football today and he plays for us!!!
What has Carlos Vela done so far to recieve your worship??

And I would contend that my perception is somewhat typical for the Liverpool fan not resident in Liverpool...

Tis certainly how I see things. I have really only started caring about the Everton match in the last few years. Prior to that, I knew no one who supported Everton and while I appreciated the local rivalry, the match didn't really hold any greater significance than any other match. Thinking about it, I actually only really care about it because one of my best mates supports Everton - this would explain why those who live in Liverpool see the derby the way they do.

The only match I really really cared about was the United match. Arsenal and Chelsea are obviousy in there now also.

The same applies to the most the lads I grew up with who supported Liverpool.. Incidently, most of the United supporting lads that I grew up with couldn't give much of a toss about the derby with City either.

The derby has always been a big one for me. They were the big rivals in the eighties competitively as well as locally and that's when i moulded my hatred towards them that has stayed with me ever since. I take joy in every negative thing that happens to that club and i love beating them.
Utd and Everton are always the big ones for me, moreso than Arsenal and Chelsea.

I hate losing to City, I really do. But I'd probably hate to lose to Liverpool more. But I'd hate to lose to Leeds even more than that. I'd imagine if I grew up in Manchester I'd probably put City first, then Leeds, then Liverpool, but outside of that it'd be Leeds, Liverpool, City.
Although I'd wager a lot of younger United supporters don't care about Leeds, because they probably haven't seen us play them in a while.

This is also a key aspect of what forms rivalries - what you can personally remember. I was five when Liverpool beat Everton in the FA Cup final in 1989. Since then, there have been few memorable clashes with them that directly contributed to the direction of silverware. That's nearly two full decades where they haven't been our biggest rivals in the competitive sense - and covers the period that I have been actively following football.

When did I get upgraded? :D

The Merseyside derby is the fixture I always look out for. As I started to support Everton in the 80's (I was still a kid though), Liverpool and Everton were battling for everything on offer, leagues, cups (3 finals were contested between them in the 80's) etc... so I guess my personal rivalry and enjoyment from this fixture was set from then...

In the early to mid 90's both clubs went through dodgy patches. Everton more so than Liverpool, but they were still good games as the saying goes, "the form book" definitely went out the window.

I think for Everton fans, the Man Utd fixture would be next on the list after Liverpool. We generally give them a good run for their money at Goodison and have caused them a few upsets over the years.
