as i recall the ruc went round schools and took them out on hikes. like they took maybe 6 schools out at once i think there was about 100 pupils on the first stage that i was on. then there was a second stage, (slightly longer, harder, less people and involved more teamwork i.e. helping folk over gates, fences muddy bits e.t.c) third stage was somethin like 12 miles cross rough country and then a select few were sent for a weekend in armagh for a team building excercise. that was brilliant. it doesnt sound as good when its on paper but it was for building inter-community relationships both within the school and with the police. kinda similar to that peelers with pizzas only better!!!!

also after the weekend there was 3 or 4 ppl who "won" a special scholarship prize to scotland or the lake district or stuff.

when i did it i think there was 600 ppl started out and 13 got through to stage 4.

they used to come around to my school and take a few lads out but they were back in again as soon as they got a good kicking, some of them did ramble on a bit afterwards, is that what you mean PE?

Just find somwhere that does the Duke of Edinburgh Award hun. Check with your school or local youth organisation. Some places have specialised DoE clubs. I did mine through my school back in the day. Check out the Duke of Edinburgh website too.

I got to the second stage.

The first stage was a bit of a joke, we walked through Bangor. Although I did find 20 quid, best part of the day.

Of course I handed it into the local police station - as if.:)
