Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Starting to Remix

Sorry if this is a stupid question or has been said before, I'm a noob with all this. I've made a few remixes before for online competitions and the like so when doing them all the seperated samples of the songs were easy to get a hold of.

But the thing is, now I'm beginning to think I'd like to remix more but I don't know where to begin. Do you have to get samples of a song off the actual artist yourself or can you get software to split them for you?

I have Sony ACID Pro software so that's not the problem so if anyone could give any help on starting off it'd be greatly appreciated. :o

Yeah if you were doing a proper remix you'd need the samples from the original producer. Extracting the samples yourself won't make a decent end product really.

i do a few remixes for labels.they basically send you all the melodic elements to the track(basically everything except for the drums)
to do uncommissioned remixes is tougher.there is no real software out there to let you extract individual elements from tracks.its just not possible to do unless there is a section with an element on its own(bassline solo,or leadline with nothing else playing)
people still do it though.they generally call them bootlegs.some are well done some not so much.

Sometimes labels can send MIDI data of the melodic content, or sometimes just a single vocal snippet (like marc-et-claude 'La', was just a 3 second clip)

try getting your hands on some sample cd's?

there's tonnes of freee online sample packs out there as well - go to any busy dancemusic production forum like dogsonacid.com and search...
