    Hello trompele

I've been having that sort of issue with BT for the last 2 months+, appears to depend on your location.

There's a few threads about it here, check the 'please call eircom if...' thread.

The general message at the moment is that there's an underlying Eircom issue. Make sure to call BT and log a fault, go through their troubleshooting to rule out anything on your end. The more the merrier.

^^ I've been having the same crap with UTV for a similar time period too. It'll be fine in the wee hours of the morning but rubbish at peak times.

The first hop is causing the problem

I remote access to several networked servers located around Ireland and its a real pain in the neck the last few days.

It was fine this morning. I was getting responses around 56ms to 70ms

However again this evening its well above 200ms

    I'm going bald fast

The support line actually screw you.

They know the problem only kicks off after 6pm, support line closed so you cannot ring them to walk through the problem when it is actually occurring.

I don't have much choice with the exception that I could upgrade my package.

I could opt for permanet but I've had bad experience with them when they suffer a network fault. Its nearly impossible to get through to technical support.

but when permanet works its pretty good

In fairness with Eircom it works, but its just not at the level that is acceptable for the price we pay per month.

Have the same issue, on BT 3Mb package and on 32/8 interleaving, in Laois. Here's the response I've had from BT customer care:
High ping times on connections is most likely caused by interleaving being enabled on your telephone line. This is a system that auto-corrects the signal coming down the line to ensure maximum transfer rates on your connection. This will increase at peak times as there is a greater demand on the service. Stability and transfer rates are made a priority on the service and the line.

As there is no BT equipment at your local exchange we have no power to turn this off. The only way we can reduce your ping times is to lower your overall speed by placing you on a lower speed profile.

    Pain in the backside.

So many people complaining about this and nothing can be done ?
I can't believe that. Is there any BT or Eircom support technican reading this forum ?

I've been having similar problems for the last 3 weeks. pings have increased from 50ms to google, up to 300 to 400ms. I'm on the 7.6mb with BT. if its not fixed in the next week or so, im going to downgrade to 3mb.

The last time it was like this it was right after the upgrade from 3mb to 7.6mb. then after a few weeks it went back to normal. i wonder what has changed in the last few weeks.
