WWE & The Wrestler

It would appear that WWE have done a complete u-turn regarding their stance on the movie "The Wrestler". There was the vignette promoting the film on Smackdown and now a video up on WWE.com promoting it. It seems to be a case of WWE trying to cash in on the exposure the film is getting. It's amazing what a golden globe award and an oscar nomination can do!

Apparently there's even talk of trying to do something with Mickie Rourke at Wrestlemania!

Were they unhappy with it initially then?

^ Yes, Vince said it was not an accurate representation of the industry.

I am sure most will agree that Vinces comment is absolute bollocks. The Wrestler would be quite accurate of the indy scene of wrestling worldwide. I would go so far as to say that the WWE organisation is not representative of the industry as a whole in rebuttal of Vinces statement. Brand leader most certainly, biggest organisation for now (and probably forever) unquestionably, representative, not in the slightest.

Would it not just be that the distributor of the film bought the ad space and WWE wouldn't say no to money?

    From PWInsider:
Tonight during the E! News pre-show for the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Mickey Rourke was interviewed about the support of the professional wrestling industry when it comes to "The Wrestler". Rourke said the wrestling industry has been very supportive, specifically naming Ric Flair and Roddy Piper. Rourke then said "It looks like I'm going to Houston for Wrestlemania. Y2J better look out, I'm going to kick his a-s-s".

Hrm, Randy "The Ram" Robinson vs. Jericho at Wrestlemania???
