Hope this isnt a stupid question but one of the lads here has bought a few guns in Poland.

Some of these are upwards of 400fps with a .20bb which I believe is over the legal limit of 1 joule.

To keep this inside the legal limit can lighter pellets be used in say a skirmish?

    Thanks

    Richie

No you will have to get them lowered abit to keep them within the 1 joule law, technically you are in posetion of firearms of which you need a licence to own..... If you bring the guns to any good airsoft retailer in Ireland im sure they would be more then happy to bring them back within the 1 joule law for you....

A .2 at 400fps is 1.5J. Even if you changed the weight to a .15 it would be going at 450fps which is still around 1.5J. If you went with a .25 it would be going at around 350fps which is still the same power.

In short you need to get them lowered to the 1J level.

Thanks for the quick answer.Apparently he says the law on airsoft in Poland is up to 17 joules---can anyone confirm this.

So his guns will need some serious underpowering to be legal.A couple of them are over 550fps.
Is underpowering them something that could be done himself?

Im posting this as a favour since his English isnt the best and he really doesnt want to have to purchase his equipment all over again over here.

    Thanks again,
    Richie

No, the weight of the BB will not effect the power output, if it is 400fps with a 0.2 then it is approx 1.5J

If you use a lighter or heavier weight BB, it is still 1.5J, however the fps will change.

Yes, apparently the law in Poland is that anything less than 17 Joules is NOT a firearm, so hence paintball guns and airsoft etc... are legal to own without licence. It would be near impossible to make any airsoft gun shoot that hard though.

If he wants to bring them over to Ireland, the easiest method is to change all the springs in them to bring them down to with Irish legal limits. A 1 Joule spring or an ms90 will do the job most of the time.

Im preety sure he can lower the power output himself by getting a smaller spring from an airsoft shop, there might need to be some other things done to the gun but i personnaly think all is needed is a new spring.

Thanks for that.He was basing his calculations on Oisins chart in the "What is one joule?" thread but wasnt taking into account the faster velocity of a lighter BB.

Can anyone recommend a good shop that would carry out the recommended modifications to make his guns legal?

Somewhere on the Northside of Dublin would be ideal.

You want to downgrade it before it enters the country, or it can be tested and confiscated at customs.

Just have them shipped without springs, and have a shop install a spring for you over here.

If they are already in the country, whip the springs out asap, never skirmish a gun over a joule, getting them downgraded is a priority as they are illegal once over the joule.
