How they choose who to let go...

    Hi,

I was just wondering, I was let go from my job on Friday as part of their cost cutting plan, I am there less than two years (would've been two years in March) but the thing is there's other people there doing the same job as me that have been with the company a much shorter time, (i.e. four/five months). Do companies have no obligation to run on a last in - first out basis? Do they have to give a proper reason that they chose me over anyone else or is it entirely up to them?
