I didn't get to meet many either, I looked but couldn't see anyone beforehand except for Ike,Eo1n and Orbhsa and all I could say to Ike is have you a jump lead, after getting there just after 10:30 am (way too early) my car battery died, it wasn't till after the race that I got a jump start, so thanks to sweater, life saver. So I was afraid to turn the car off, so missed out on meeting people after and showrys sandwiches. Chip time about 69:45, not a pb but still a good performance. Well done to west waterford in putting on such a fantastic race and I will be back again next year for def.

Had a great day, despite having to get a new number after i left my chip on the cooker yesterday evening and cooking it! Timed the run at 65:09 (65:20 on results) on my watch...but i think that might be 10 seconds short of my real time. Previous and only other attempt at this distance was 86min in october solas run...so very pleased with that.

introduced myself to showry at the finish, but he was busy with crisis above...hope the young fella is ok!

I enjoyed this very much.Missed raheny and was on tablets all week
and of course you should not run then but gave it a go,was hoping just to just get round
--(like a horse in the national) and hopefully under 90,did 84mins and about 30s
off PB so very happy.Like the shirt, goody bag decent, very well signposted, mile markers
good. All in all a great event and a welcome change from the Phoenix Park which is
boring me at this stage.Might try the John Treacy 10m challenge for some more country air
-(the smell was a reminder of the country at 7 miles!!) :)

Cheers asimonov, he's coming home tonight anyway, he's only 3 so it should heal quickly enough.
Sorry if I was a bit dazed when you were talking to me. I was out on my feet.

good stuff showry, your club pulled off a really great event. BTW, the same happened to my eldest when he was four...they handle it a lot better than we would ;-)

Any idea when the results will be up.

showry sorry to hear about your little boy. My son took a dive out of his cot and broke his collar bone when he was not even 18 months. I felt awful but they bounce back and heal so quickly! Great time you too all considering! Well done all of you guys on your performances. I got stuck in Clonmel, literally. Floods everywhere:mad: A very nice local brought us up over a mountain to get onto the Dungarvan road an alternate route but on that road we watched a kamikaze transit driver get stranded in a couple of feet of water. Had to turn back over the mountain and head home, there was just no way I would have made the start on time :o Ah well, I came home and put some dance tunes on the headphones and went out for a 10 miler in anger! Result of that run in my log.

Would have been great to meet you guys and actually get to the race but hey another day for sure :)

Again another great race and another well organised event - for €15 entry fee it had everything that 'big' race could offer (hope your listening Wexford half Marathon!). Don't think I've ever seen as many sandwiches in the one place! An absolute credit to the organisers

Timed myself at 71:15 a definate PB (chip time might be different), so well pleased.

Glad to hear you got sorted and home safe Woddle.

I have to echo all the praise towards west wat ac....great day out, everything was organised well.
I eat enough sandwiches to feed a family and a few slices of the buttered brack...top class.

    Roll on Ballycotton !

Great race yesterday, found the new course tougher than last year
.That hill at mile 8 is a bit draining. Longest run in two months so I was pleased to get around it. Finished it in 68.22

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,238 ✭✭✭Abhainn

Would have been satisfied with a sub 63 but managed 61:50 by my watch which was great. Found mile 8 slowest but pushed on from there and was strong over last 2 miles

And along the way had new PB's at 5 miles, then 10 k (estimated distance), then PB'd last 5 miles distance again. :D
Not sure about the organisation at the start.

Fantastic running abhainn, I agree about the start, I was lining up about the 3rd row from the front and then everyone all of a sudden turned around, so I was now 3 rows from the back and covered the first 1/2 mile at over 8 min pace and also I didn't see the chip mat at the start line so I had to guess where to start my watch but everything else was spot on, every mile marker was well manned. Great race all in all and quite a few of yee had pbs which is great considering the last 3 miles were quite tough.

I didn't see any start mat at the start and there's none in the photos either. Is it just timed based on the gun time and the finishing chip time?

I kind of agree. Last year that long pull in the Cork road would have been at about mile 6.5 when the legs were a bit fresher. The last mile used to have a hill but it was over quickly.

A good race in general, cold as hell and that wind was killing me but hey, we wouldn't have it any other way. I got in just under the 70 so I was happy.

I also agree about the start, it was all a bit confusing. Why can't the race organisers simply place a banner overhead or even along the side of the road marking not only the Start Line but also the feckin direction (a simple arrow would suffice)! I saw a sign that said 'Start' but everyone was confused about the direction.

Wow, what a great spread after the race. You have to give credit to the people doing the food, so many people (mainly hard working ladies) giving up their Sunday to feed us...thanks to all involved.

    ..next up, da Cotton!

I've been rounded off to 70:02 but I'll be a good 15 seconds under if the chip times are working but for some reason I don't have alot of faith

Was hoping to score a PB here (sub 75min) but injury has slightly disrupted my training and anything under 80 min I'll be happy() with:(.
In fact completing the race might be a more realistic goal:(:(.
But I'm definitely lining up at the start and we'll see from there...

    Sneaked in just under 75min!
Although amazingly I was name checked TWICE on the results list as finishing @ 1:14.59 AND as finishing @ 1:15.00. Therefore anyone who finished below position 425 has my permission to bump themselves up one position.
I am, obviously, accepting 74.59 as my time;)
Don't accept criticism re race start.
The race route was well mapped in the sports hall beforehand ans it was quite obvious from the map that we would be running in towards the town at the start of the race and then circling back out into the country.
From 8.5 mile to 9.5 mile I lost a minute at least, but then again there wasn't many passing me along this stretch.
Well organised and time callers at all mile markers were a welcome addition.Goody bag v generous.

A week off to try and finally shake this injury and then 4 weeks training for Ballycotton.:)

yeah, I really don' think those chips were up to much! Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you need a register point for the chips at the start and end? I saw the mat at the end but I didn't see anything at the starting line that would record the starting point for each chip....anyone with more information?
