The european elections will take place in Ireland (and across Europe) during the Summer.

The Economist notes, in the above article, that voter turnout was at 45%. Ireland has always been above average on this point roughly 60% has turned out for the last two elections.

Will this drop on the one year that a high turnout is needed. This year's vote could be the most important for Ireland. After it's citizens voted against the Lisbon treaty, anti Europe sentiment is at an high and brussels is wondering what will happen.

A strong turnout in june will help to show Europe that the Irish aren't euroskeptic and will show how much support Europe gets from one of it's smallest members

Lisbon II will (probably) be after the summer (october more than likely, before the new commission meets) so Europe will have new (or old) Irish MEP's before then.

Does anyone know what Ben Dunne's position is on running as an MEP?
He said last june that if the government were to impose a second Lisbon referendum on the country that he would run for election.
