Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Nasri? Thought he has been injured a fair bit hasn't he?

    I'll say Jo.

For my favourite team: Manucho, but only because he hasn't been given any game time at United so far.

Overall: Robbie Keane is the first to come to mind, but then again there is a whole thread directing attention towards him...

I thought Nasri was doing well so far?

    /edit
Great call by Mgoraf on Jo.

Overall: Robbie Keane/Nasri to close to call

    Nasri?
    Are you serious?
He scored the winner on the first day of the season in his debut.
He scored on his Champions League debut.
He scored the winning brace against Man Utd.
He's only 21 so still learning.

He's played in every game he's been available.
I really don't see how he's been a flop, you'll have to explain it to me.

First season in England. Five goals and two assists so far in the league including two against Man utd.

Arsenal Silvestre I suppose. I didn't think he'd be that bad. My mistake.

Overall Would have to be Keane or Bentley. I'll go with Bentley due to my dislike for him.

    Nasri is a little bemusing.

City - Jo. He's just been fucking shite. Makes Bambi on ice look graceful.

Overall - Robbie Keane, as was expected.

None of Gomes, Bentley, Pavlychenko or Modric have really worked out as planned for Spurs.

It's a similar story for Liverpool, with Keane and Dossena failing to impress.

Jo has been anonymous at Man City.

That's good coz Wenger didn't pay 17m for him :)

think it was like £12M for Nasri.

My team (Villa): I suppose you'd have to give it to Nicky Shorey, although I wasn't expecting much from him.

Overall: Modric or Keane. Berbatov would be up there if you'd asked this a month or so ago.

    £12 Million

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,999 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

    How about these?

Francisco Jimenez Tejada, aka Xisco at Newcastle
    Amaury Bischoff at Arsenal
    Marvin Emnes at Middlesboro

Thats just three off the top of my head.

Edit: and of course Louis Saha at Everton

Think you have to appreciate it is his first season in the premiership, still playing very well imo, just scored against Hull, he has had a few injuries, remember it took Bob Pires a bit to settle in, I think Nasri will be a huge player for us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,169 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Bischoff was free and has been injured up until very recently. Even if he turns out to be shíte Wenger basically admitted he was taking a punt on him. I doubt his wages are high at all so I wouldn't think it's possible for him to be a flop.

I think Bischoff at Arsenal was free? And don;t think he was bought for the first team.

He has been fantastic for our reserves. I wouldn't call him a flop considering how little we paid for him.
Wenger also stated that it was just a gamble considering how injury prone he is.

I'd say Silvestre was our biggest flop. Something I can live with as I'd rather spend 1m on a flop that 18 :)

He wasnt doing to bad at the start of the season, Has really fizzled out though.

He never did well, apart from the one game at home to Pompey.

The main problem is that he is being played as a lone striker when at CSKA he played behind Vagner Love. Although that doesn't excuse his inability to pass, hold the ball or shoot.

He has been injured all season a fact Arsene Wenger knew when he bought him, he is obviously seen something in him to take a risk on him, has played a couple of games for the reserves so may well get a proper run soon.

Pav's been one of our best players this season imo

12 goals in 24 apps in all competitions

Yeah, but all these players have been total flops as in they are the worst transfers so far. Just because somebody cost more money does not mean that they are the biggest flops, thats the thread title after all.

How has Bischoff been a flop?
When Wenger bought him he stated he was a reserve team player.
Apparently he's been putting in very good performances for the reserves.
    Don't see how that's a flop...

To be honest I think it does. A player who cost £20m who turns out to be equally as bad as a player who cost £2m is always going to be considered a bigger flop as the higher transfer fee means more was expected of him.

Are you basing your nominations on fantasy football points?
Deco hasn't scored loads of goals or gotten loads of assists. But if you watch Chelsea play most of their attacks stem from a ball from him deep in midfield.
He's really added an extra angle to their midfield that can complement Lampard and Ballack more direct styles.

I think he was bought in the 08 Jan window but still deserves an honourable mention

Maybe I'm mistaken then, I was sure his move to Arsenal involved bigger money/wages. If not then I'm wrong in this case.

    Disagree.

    Jo: £19m / 3 goals, 4 assists
    Keane: £19m / 7 goals, 5 assists

Plus, there were a couple of games where Keane didn't score and was excellent - Man Utd being the prime example.

You for some reason neglected to include games played -

Jo: 9 in the league (6 starts, 3 sub)
Keane: 18 in the league (16 starts, 2 sub)

I'm sure Keane has more in Europe too.

But basically neither player can be considered a flop at this stage. They've both done alright without setting the world on fire.

Jo has not done alright, believe me.

He hasn't done well, but there are excuses for that in fairness. Mark Hughes bought him to play a role and then the money arrived and in comes SWP and Robinho so really thats some shake up and the system that Hughes had probable intended to play went out the window as he has to use these guys as well. I don't think you can say that Jo had been a flop this early.

On Robbie Keane, he took some time to settle in and when he got a run of games he started to prove himself but good form does not seem to guarantee you a place in the Liverpool team. I think he is a confidence player and its hard to be positive when you play well and get dropped. I still think he can do it at Liverpool but I have made my feelings clear about Benitez and his use of strikers.

I still wouldn't be calling either a flop though. And calling Nasri a flop is just laughable.

The players I mentioned, I'll admit to being wrong about Bischoff.

Xisco hasn't looked near the standard for the PL and he cost 5 mill or something like that.

Marvin Emnes cost 4 mill or something like that and his contribution at Middlesboro has been nothing short of abysmal. He has not started a game in the PL yet but has come on as a sub and looked awful in a couple of games.

For Chelsea I'd say Deco, started brightly, got a few injuries and hasnt done a lot since.

Anywhere else I'd probably say Robbie, Jo or Bentely.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

For my own team Manchester United FC i would have to say Manucho but only because he hasnt been given a shot yet!

Overall the worst signing has probably been Keane overall unfortunatly, the other options are people like Moore from Villa to West Brom, Jo, possibly Bosingwa cause of the price tag

but overall, considering price, hype, expectation and impact i would have to say Keane

mind you Jo pushes him pretty close

Yeah but Jo hasn't played as many games cause he hasn't been picked, and it's not as if City were full of great strikers.

    Deco for me

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,905 ✭✭✭✭Handsome Bob

My Team: Andrea Dossena-I expected so much from this player and he's been such a let down. And I actually think he's put on weight since his arrival. Shocking!

Overall:Giovanni Dos Santos-I had heard so many great things, then I saw so many underwhelming things.

  • Registered Users Posts: 650 ✭✭✭spiderdan

Nickey Shorey- Not the biggest buy though, he can still do a job

Robbie Keane- It has to be! He is being linked with Newcastle today- says it all really! I don't think Benitez has done him any favors in settling in.

    Jo: 18 (13+5) 3

Keane has done slightly better than Jo, but neither have been given a decent shot to be fair and it's rare that a player sets the world alight in his first season!
