I am hoping to go to America in a few months, Las Vegas and Arizona. I was wondering, is it possible to say, contact someone in a club out there and be brought along as a guest to a rifle range/club and fire a few rounds ??

I very doubtful about this, but whatever, is there possibly a range ( well a legal one anyway ! ) where foreigners can fire off a few ??

Also if I want to visit a gun shop, obviously I cannot purchase, but just to look around, buy a t shirt whatever, are the gun shop owners ok about it ?

There are ranges in the states that allow tourists to take part.
There are quite a few in Vegas.

    Hello from West Virginia....

No Problem's at all in Vegas,

There are a number of ranges open to the visiting public, most have gun hire available and some will even be in the position to offer full auto UZI or H&K's.

One of the best is "The Gun Store" on East Tropicana, they even have internet offers on their site, sorry dont know the address, but you can look it up.

Ammo is far cheaper here than in Ireland, just kick back have fun and dont blow all your cash in the casino's, wait till you hit the gun stores

Ditto AZ.It is a class3 state,if you are in Phoenix go to Shooters World on 28th Ave 25 or 28 thousand range of street numbers. They have an indoor range[or did] where you can shoot.
In Nevada try the Desert Sands gun club outside Vegas.
And YES the US gun store owners are by and large the most friendliest and helpful lot you can imagine.Just bring lodsa money, cos you will have such a "blast" shooting various different guns we will never see here.:D

Des try this one its about 5 minutes taxi drive from the strip well from hotel new york new york if you are staying on that side of the strip. Its a great range it has a huge seclection of firearms. All the staff are either currently in the police or armed forces or ex members. The wife and i were in there about 2 years ago very welcoming and a great bit of fun to.

You can pick up t shirts there to with the gun store logo on it .

Try Caswell shooting club in Mesa Arizona. I was a member there. Found them very friendly. The might even have a website so google it. They are located in a suburb of Pheonix.

I visited the The Gun Store in Vegas about 10 days ago, had a goo on me to fire a Thompson. $50 for any full auto + 50 rounds of ammo. You could fire a few $100, three gun packages too.

Had a look around the store aswell, you could buy anything from a .22 pistol to .50 Barrett ($10,000).

Overheard a husband and wife conversation at the counter, she's pleading with him, 'I don't want a revolver, I don't need a revolver'. You have to love Nevada gun laws.

I don't think Arizona has any restrictions on guns at all.. 2,5 gun/person is an average there. Highest in the US as I know.

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,024 ✭✭✭✭Grizzly 45

It has a few restrictions all right.Mostly about concealed carry. It's ASFIK Louisanna or Texas that has the highest capacity gun owners per head.

Sorry to hijack, going to Prague in a few weeks and want to fire lots of big guns. Thinking about booking these guys, but it's kinda expensive and they don't have machine guns.

Anyone know where I can have some reasonably priced full-auto family fun near Prague? Also, any big gun shops where English is spoken? Hoping I can trick out the auld CZ 452 on the cheap. Thanks.

Thanks a million Grizzly, the website says the full-auto is in Nevada only, but I was thinkin that didn't make sense. Feck, it, ammo's pricey enough over here anyway. So long as it's comin out the barrel of an ak47 I won't mind paying for it. :D

Went to a store with a range out the back while in Vegas donkeys years ago. Had never held or fired a gun before and was very surprised when they practically handed me a (dreaded) Glock with almost no instruction, showed me and a buddy (think he picked a revolver) into the backroom range and left us there with no supervision to deal with jams and the lot. All we had to do was pay the money and handover our passports. Gotta admit I was a bit terrified but enjoyed it after the first 10 shots.

On the way back out I spotted an mp5 on the wall and figured I'd have a go. Got supervision with this one. The instructor hung the man-shaped target upside down so in my stupidity I pointed out his mistake :D Thats because he says everyone aims for the head, can't control the muzzle lift and shoots the crap out of the ceiling. Then after firing off the first mag I turned to the instructor to get the second with the gun still raised in the firing position. Cue a very hasty hand shooting up to deflect the muzzle downrange !

Sorry. That went very OT. Point is there is no problem renting and shooting guns in Vegas !! Going mad I didn't have a go offa the thompson.........

Cheapest gun to run there was the silenced Ruger .22pistol.
$200 transfer tax from BATFE plus cost of the can.
Cheapest full auto gun is still a STEN MK 2 or3. Good ones cost around $3.5K plus transfer tax. After that well that depends on how much money you have in the bank, and how quick do you want to be rid of it. Top dollar there would have been the mini gun[appx $20K] or the quad 50cal set up.
Add in your ammo, for those by the crate load and sse how much you have left at the end of the week.
One lad over in the US has a Bofors anti aircraft gun at these shoots. He was paying back in the late 1980s somthing like $50per ROUND!If he could get them.Wonder how much it costs him nowadays for this fun??

90mm, 76mm and 57mm anti-tank guns are not overly uncommon. I've a buddy who owns four fully functional M5 tanks, he basically reloads the 37mm shells. Of course, solid shot only. Making an explosive shell falls afoul of the 1934 NFA and results in a $200-per-round tax.

However, artillery shoots are usually in Colorado or Wyoming.

I've been to Knob Creek, though... it's right next to Fort Knox. See my 'Redneck Shooting' thread.

I knew there was thread I'd meant to reply to!

Anyhow, for what it's worth, the locals don't rate The Gun Store at all, regarding it as a tourist trap whose main aim is to relieve out-of-towners of whatever money the casinos haven't already.
Certainly, the one and only time I looked in, the punters appeared to be being queued up and shifted through as quickly as possible.

I can personally recommend Discount Firearms as a friendly and relaxed place, with a fine selection of goodies to play with.

Also well regarded by the locals, although I haven't been there myself, is the Las Vegas Gun Range & Firearms Center.

There have been a couple of threads over the years about 'walk-in' ranges on the East Coast U.S.:
Gun range in New York or Boston
    shooting ranges in boston

I don't know if anyone ever came up with a place in New York City though.

This might be a good place to start looking:

ASFIK there isnt one in the NYC area of Manhattan,Brooklyn,Harlem,Queens, the Bronx,Staten Island.
Courtsey of NYC being a "gun free" city.:rolleyes:You need to go to Upstate New York or south to New Joisey for any shooting ranges.

Sticking a Times Square ZIP code (10036) into this:
    http://www.wheretoshoot.org/
...and setting the search range to 5 miles and 'Rentals' returns 3 hits.
Setting it to 10 miles returns 10 hits.

    This place:
    http://www.westsidepistolrange.com/
...on 20 West 20th Street is 1.2 miles from Times Square, allegedly.
Non-members can rent .22 and 9mm rifles, but,:
"Assorted handguns are available for rental for those who have a valid NYC handgun permit."
    :(
