Hi (this is a bit of a newbie question & apologies to the mods in advance if its not allowed for any reason)

I am in the market for a writing desk and some assorted shelves and would prefer to buy antique rather than modern and so was wondering would anyone know of any good shops (Dublin city or southside) which would carry some suitable stock to choose from ? Preferably not too expensive.

Also if anyone happens to know of any good (writing desk/shelve unit) bargains available at the moment please fire away.

I have already put together a list from the web and plan to go visiting on the weekend but in the meantime if anyone could help that would be appreciated.

Well you picked the right time to buy,.... the dealers will snap your hand off to make a sale at the moment.

how's your haggling skills? ...... can you give an image of the type of desk you would prefer ?
And if I'm not being too personal ... could you give a suggested price bracket you wish to spend.

BTW..... im not a dealer ! I just love antique furniture and should be able to give you decent advice with a little more info

    Thanks,

Thanks for the reply. Something with this general shape would do the job :

    (Probably with more sturdy legs)

    or

High enough off the ground for a tall person to use comfortably & nothing too ornate and with enough deskspace to be useable.

I would probably consider something more ornate if stuck for choice and the price was right. Really looking to pay as little as humanly possible but could go to €200 to €300 if the item was exactly right.

Re the bookshelves - bog standard wood varnish would be fine, again nothing too ornate, could go for full size or waist height.

    Cheers.

    Hi Morlar,
2-300 might not get you a desk of quite that quality.

the img on the bottom shows the far better desk imo.

often you'll find auction prices and especially after-sa;es to be more reasonably priced than a shop.

Omans on Clarendon st. might be worth a visit.
