Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Lens recommendations

There seems to be a lot of threads for recommendations on lenses. Would it be possible to put something in the FAQ's where we could have the recommendations broken down by camera type and what lens would be best for different situations. I.e. Landscape, portrait, macro etc.

Would be very handy for anyone new just starting out in photography and they wouldn't have to search through loads of old threads or ask the same questions that have already been answered.

Don't know if it's been suggested before but its just a thought.

    Good idea.

The problem is who would write it?

If you get three Photographers together & ask for their views on glass you will get at least seven opinions.

If you can suggest a way for it to be done in an objective way then it's possible.

I'll have to think about that part of it. Being very new to photography myself I have the same problem as everyone else trying to figure out what lens is best for each job.

I dunno there are soem fair concensus-es (wtf is the plural of concensus?) about some areas where there are obvious superstars. But the problem is then that people have budgets, so you're tripling your work because you have to come up with a budget option, a mid range option, and a woohoo! option.

Something is stirring in the recesses of my memory (from that time i was mod and i've trie dto block it out ;)) that we did have a big thread on glass that was linked to from the FAQ...

Similar to the camera selector, maybe this could be useful?

    DPReview Lens Guide

If it is then let me know & I will add it & modify the "Which Camera should I buy?" Sticky
