Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Although I've used steel wool in the past to make fire, why not just buy a lighter and put it your kit?

Being a smoker I have at least 4 lighters that I know of spead across my kit, plus whatever waterproof matches that are issued in a ration pack.

This is the first I've ever seen of Firesteel (tm) Looking at the cost of it I doubt its gonna break the bank for you, give it a lash I suppose, but tbh flint and tinder or WP Matches and a bit of cotton wool still work for me.

Zippo, and a clipper. Non Smoker(4 years now) ;) I kept a steel and a tampon in a kit as a last resort.

If in doubt borrow a match and some petrol from your Sgt....three, two, one!
