Looking at buying a used car, either 2007 or 2008. Will there be a difference in motor tax depending on year?

Pre 2008: taxed on old c.c. system
Jan 2008-June 2008: You have a choice at renewal time of the old (c.c.) or new (CO2) system
July 2008 on: taxed on CO2 band system

Note that date of first registration (wherever in the world it was registered) is what determines the Irish reg (and therefore the tax regime) of the car.

unless you are buying a very high emission car, the 08 will generally be cheaper to tax. Many cars dropping from 600 to 150 euro per year. What car are you looking at?
If it happened to be a model wth a big price drop, I wouldnt consider the 07. You will find it impossible to sell in a few years when the price difference between an 07 / 08 is a small amount of money. Why would anyone then buy the 07. It would need to be significantly cheaper.
