Not sure if this is in the right section.

Every other country that they tried to bring this in told them to **** off. What a great nation we live in.

The UK have announced to day that they will be bringing it in through government legislation.

I gather that this is a follow up to Eircom's decision. It is only a matter of time before it will become an EU superstate "Big Brother" law.

This announcement now paves the way for IRMA to go after other Irish ISPs to force them to implement the same type of arrangement. No Digital Economy Act required there, just good old brute force.

No truer word said. Thankfully UPC said they would take IRMA to court as they have refused out right to do the same as Eircom.

    Go move Eircom hahah!

I hope that's a joke, otherwise you are completely clueless.
It doesn't matter if it's torrents, usenet etc

What matters is this was passed simple as that, it's a joke.

It doesn't matter if you are pro or anti filesharing. You have to see the bigger picture here.

Look at the digital economy bill in the uk

This is NOT a solution to combat filesharing. There are so many flaws with this system and its a joke that it was implemented. If anything this is going to cost MORE money than it is going to save. Think of all the court cases of people wrongfully accused.

At the end of the day IRMA would probably force a minimum charge of €50 for CDs if they had the chance, in the same way that they used their influence to bump the price up a few years ago, because they thought people like CDWow weren't charging Irish people enough.

Dick Doyle is probably one of the world's biggest ball-aches.

i jno a detective guy who is over the whole internet investigations in limerick city
the scary thing is that he can look at anything u have downloaded or viewed as long as he gets a warnt from the court which will take him less than 24 hrs to get!

and also they run random check to see what people download so they cant convict u of anything unless what u upload or download is highly illegal content (eg pedo stuff!)
anything like porn illigal software downloads they dont really care about ownly for satistics they use that info for

this is scary and i think it should be illegal to dothis and we should protest to the goverment

this is no lie this guy is real and theres more out there hire by the gardi too

That's simply not true. They can't see everything you've downloaded, and yes they would need a warrant anyway. A warrant will not be given out simply because it's requested, there would need to be a compelling reason. They don't run random checks on people's activities, as this is illegal. There is nobody hired by the Gardai to spy on people, nor do the Gardai compile statistics on people's porn and warez downloads. Please don't post nonsense like that.

The Gardai have nothing to do with the P2P copyright infringement investigations carried out by agencies that work on behalf of the music industry.

There are already several threads discussing this topic, so lets keep it to them, and on the topic at hand.
