I have a MVision HD300 Combo, it locks up roughly one a month and needs to be powered off to work again. According to gtg60's photos it's internal layout and circuit boards identical to the HD200 Combo. Has anyone else had any problems with the HD300? Could it be a overheating problem?

    Yeah Galen,
Was totally freaked out till now! I have had blank screen with "Signal Scrambled" flashing on the TV all day but sound and signal strength was normal...Bought the FreeSat initially to watch MotoGP and missed the thing.
I switched the unit on/off a few times to no avail. I have just pulled the plug
and hey presto...all is good in the world...Thanks. (And Ta very much to the BBC for their streaming channels)

    Hi Doc,
I updated my sat box's firmware, so now I can also watch avi files on it but that didn't solve the problem. I think my machine is overheating and I'll have to add a fan to cool it, others on this thread have done the same with their HD200s. In the meantime I have removed it's casing to allow ventilation.
I wonder if those who fitted fans to their sat boxes removed part of it casing to allow better ventilation?

Weird thing is I only added the fan because of my Channel 4 HD issue, never had any other heating problems.

And it's only a single component that overheats in my case, unfortunately a heatsink wasn't enough so in the end had a heatsink and fan.

    Hi gtg60,
I missed Channel4HD when I set up my box, is it recent?

That heatsink runs hot in my box too, I presume that it is some sort of processor to be running so hotly. When my machine goes on the fritz I lose everything, video, audio, remote, until I pull the plug for a few seconds.

No, you need a Sky FTV card.

I added a heatsink to the troublesome component but it wasn't enough and had to go with the fan too.

To be honest I'm not bothered about getting Channel4HD.

Which compenent are you talking about? My machine came with a large heatsink attached to a large chip 60mm from the left edge of the mainboard, that's so hot.

My overheating issue relates directly to reception of Channel 4 HD (and other DVB-S2 transponders), this has nothing to do with your overheating problems.

That's what I thought. My box doesn't have any A/V problems, it just simply dies until I pull the plug. The mark1 sky digiboxes had a similar fault.

    Hi Galen,
With three small kids around removing the casing isn't really an option for me...I have had the unit on all day and I can't say it's terribly hot.
I have yet to install the latest firmware update, it does not play avi. files.I don't mind. I've a wee Ellion media player that does that job. If MVision do an update to play MKV's now that would be class.
Where do you get the update files?

    Thanks,
    Doc.

    Hi Doc,

There isn't any kids in my house so leaving the lid off isn't a problem for me but I doubt it'll be enough so I will have to attach a fan to cool it.
Here is a link to get the firmware.

    Cheers Galen,
I just found that site earlier this evening. I downloaded the zipped file. There were three files in there...HD300E_0461.UAD HD300E_conv.UAD & HD300E_DBoot_V0021.UBT
Did you install all of these?
I'm reluctant use the HD300 as an AVI. media player. I only have it since February but a couple of weeks ago i stuck my 16GB sandisk usb stick to mess about with the recording menu. I formatted it,recorded some programmes,no problems. I then stuck the stick back into our desktop to download a few flicks and when I went to watch them the stick was fried!
Perhaps I should have formatted it again on the pc. Maybe some other members had similiar issues.

    Doc.

    Hi Doc,
I have a mains powered hard drive connected to the MVision's rear usb, this I allowed the sat box had to format for use as a PVR. I use a bog-standard stick in the front usb to play my avi files. Just have to turnoff sat box with remote, plug in stick and turn on sat box again. You may have simply corrupted your memory stick or it simply may have died.

Turn off your box with remote, plug in memory device containing firmware update, turn on sat box again with remote.
    In sat box's menu, choose Accessory section, then USB;
Backup first (options will be flashing), use green and backup both.

Now update; select HD300E_0461.UAD, press OK, select S/W Update, select OK and wait for it to update (it wouldn't hurt to cross your fingers that there's no power cuts).

    Galen.

mine is about to die, I use it for TV, dvd, and mv200, this is scary as you don't seams to be able to get a new one. i dough a universal remote could do since this is such a specific remote.

I am new to forum and would really appreciate any help with my problem.

I bought Mvision HD 200 Combo 4 weeks ago and yesterday tried to have a go at recording to usb. There simply is no Recording facility available.

    1. By following user manual: Utility / Timer and trying to change active status to Record - The only options available are : Off / Wakeup / Standby / Duration but no Record Option.

    2. Also I have tried updating the box several times via usb with software version 0468.zip and doing factory reset.
I loaded software update - system saves and reboots after 3 secs but still the system info reads:
    Model name HD 200 Combo
Software Version 01.11 LDR Ver 00.01
    Hardware Version 01.00
    Last Update June 2 2008

If anyone can help I would really really appreciate it as I am really depressed about the whole thing. I have spoken to Turbosat and Mvision Technical and they cant explain why there is no record function or the fact that the system information does not register the software update.
Do I just have a faulty Box?

    Many Thanks

    Efran

Wow, only 4 weeks ago, this model has been obsolete since last year and was replaced by the HD300, I hope you got it for a good price!

Basically the box is still running a very early firmware, you're not updating it correctly, as you have such an old firmware you must first install the firmware that ends SWUpper.UAD then the latest firmware.

If you have a good read through this thread you'll find this has all been discussed before along with other problems you are likely to encounter.

Still a great little box though and records very well, I had one for about 8 months which I passed onto the mother-in-law (over a year ago) and she's never had a days trouble with it.

Good luck and if you're still having issues please include EXACTLY what you're doing in your reply so we can help you.

yes, read this tread. you will find that the native software must first be updated with a new boot loader which will then allow you to upload the latest firmware.

+1 on that - read the thread and you should get recording going.
I have had this box for (I had to check the thread postings first!) almost two years.
It's somewhat behind the development curve at this stage (ie it's a bit old hat), but it has performed very well for me on a SCART connection to a bedroom TV - never a moment's trouble. Recently I moved it to the main TV area and connected it via HDMI to my plasma. If you read back in the thread you will see I had issues at the start regarding the stability of the box using HDMI. Using a short (< 2m) HDMI lead the box is ok - just about. I occasionally get "CAM Initialising" message on screen (I don't use a card in this box) but not nearly as often as when I was using a longer lead.
I would say that, if you were picky about image quality and stability on HDMI, then this box is not for you. I find that I get occasional judder on the image, and, if I am recording to USB drive on another channel, I can get video and sound synchronisation issues on the one I'm watching. It's very noticeable if RTE2 (upscaled HD) is being recorded.
Other than that, if you got it cheap, it's worthwhile as a secondary box.

Thanks very much gtg60 and others for replying.

I am at work now but will go home this evening and try to upload SWUpper.UAD first and then the new software.

I will let you know this evening and will post exactly how I am doing it should I be unsuccessful. Will Do this around 7.30pm so if anyone is online then would really appreciate if you have a look into forum as I will post results then and possibly need a talk through if I am doing something wrong.

Was about to send the box back but this gives me some hope now!

    Thanks

I just wanted to say a big thankyou to gtg60/upsilon/fat -tony for all your help.

This evening I uploaded the SWUpper.UAD first and the box has now updated to new fimware (now visible in sytem information) and this then allowed me to install software 0468.

So Now I have recording function - Brilliant!!

I tried recording a short burst to my USB stick - My only comment is as fat - tony mentions is that yes there are sound/ pic sync issues whilst recording if you try to watch another channel - Would this improve if I used a self powered external Hard Drive instead of just a usb stick?

Your thoughts would be much appreciated!

Thanks once again for all the help!!

I don't think that an externally powered box would resolve the issue of sync, but some of the Mvisions (like GTG60's) never suffered from the "CAM initialising" problems I had, so it's worth a punt.

It's great to see that you have successfully updated the software, though.;)

Another hint would be to get yourself a laptop cooler and place it under the MVision, you will find it heats up during operation. I found since keeping the unit cool its been very stable. The pause/recording is not great but it does many other things very well. My HD200 is not going to the gadget retirement home any day soon.
