Where to source a BIG spanner or ratchet wrench?

I am looking to tighten some M48 size nuts (no sniggering! :pac:) and so need a suitable m48/75mm tool for the job. Anyone know where I can get this size of spanner or ratchet wrench?

I've seen some big spanners (!) in a fairly expensive tool shop in Limerick but if you're not this side of the country probably any place that sells tools for garages that repair trucks etc. There's also a company called Wurth that do specialist tools that may stock them.

If you're stuck, you could always order from Farnell. A 75mm ring spanner would cost you any where from €85 to €260 but they'd probably have to order it for you.

No chance you know a truck mechanic you could just borrow from?

You should get a Stillson wrench, some people call them pipe wrench. They are available in various sizes. They have an adjustable jaw, so can be used on different size nuts/bolts. It would be better value than a spanner as that can be used only on one size. I think some tool hire places rent them out. Or if you want to buy any tool shop or plumbing store should have them.

Unfortunately I don't think you'd get much "purchase" on that if the nuts are tight and you can't add anything on to extend the lever.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a pipe wrench for pipes? As in not for nuts and will actually round off their edges if used? Certainly in my experience of not having the right tool for the job

Stillsons can also be used for opening or tightening nuts/bolts. We have 3 of various sizes at home. Anyway, I don't think it would be very easy to round the edges of a 75mm nut, would take a bit of doing.
