How many acres of land would be suitable to keep a horse on?

http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055209148&highlight=acres+land has a bit on it.

If its one horse I would say 1.5 to 2 acres minimum with at least an extra acre per additional horse.

Depends - how long are you planning to keep the horse on it and at what time of the year? At this time of year, given the weather conditions, no grass growth and ground conditions at foot, the more acres per horse you can get the better. the more the better so you can paddock it and rotate the horse between paddocks to allow the land some chance to recover and parasite control. In the summer months when grass is growing you could allow for 2.5 acres/horse but again, if you can get a larger area at this time of year, you can rotate between paddocks so as to preserve the ground. I have a mare and 3 month old foal on 8 acres at the moment, they've it well eaten and ploughed up after a month, so its time to move them on again.
